Cannot install the right language pack
Posted by: rayon - 07-20-2014, 04:18 PM - Forum: Start up and Shutdown - Replies (2)

Hello,

I want to switch the system language to German. To do so I followed the description given here in the forum.

Update language support

It's checking the language support but doesn't ask me to install a new language pack (I told the system to make German the system language.).

So I thought maybe the German language pack is already there. In the list of languages there is "German", but it's grey. So I cannot activate German.

If I click on 'Install / Remove Languages' there is already a tick at German.

If I deinstall the German language pack and install it again nothing changes.

I don't know what else I can do. Is it possible to install the language package just as a normal package with apt-get ?

Microsoft wheel mouse (optical) has no pointer
Posted by: TimPlaz - 07-20-2014, 11:14 AM - Forum: Other - Replies (16)

Each time I boot up my newly installed Linux-Lite 2.0 box, the mouse pointer is nothing more then a mini snowy tv screen. I have a heck of a time trying to figure out where to place it and click to do what I want to do in Linux. The only alternative I found was to change the mouse theme. That works while the session is open. Once I shut down or log-off and then turn it back on, its back to the snowy TV icon. Is there a fix or permanent way around this problem?

Removing the USB Data Card (Mobile Broadband) Hangs the system
Posted by: arunp - 07-20-2014, 07:25 AM - Forum: Network - Replies (2)

Dear LL,

I face a new issue in LL 2 which was not experienced in LL 1.08;

1. The Mobile broadband data card asks for a password every time to connect.

2. When the connection is disconnected and when the USB data card is removed, the network connection manager hangs (Icon becomes X mark) and the system also hangs and no other function works.

This was absolutely not experienced in LL1.08, i used to remove the data card even when it is connected live, the connection manager just disconnects the Internet and shows the message box "you are disconnected" and it continues normal operations.

Disable confirmation event when delete or one click delete?

Is there a way to set "No confirmation" when deleting, or a way to "One click delete" an item?

Thanks

I cannot find an option in the menus for    Password & Keys

I was trying to help Pelouk with his  Topic ---  Keyboard garbled

Quote:I get a window "Unlock Keyring" asking for my password for the Default keyring. I thought, "No problem now that I've got the keyboard issue sorted" but it won't accept my password???!
I now have the same "Unlock Keyring" request when I open Chrome Browser so I also wanted to find a fix . I looked in my crib list and found I had this in Lite 1-0-8 and made a note of how to fix it i

  Linux Lite Login Sound Change
Posted by: valtam - 07-19-2014, 01:49 AM - Forum: On Topic - Replies (4)

It's come to my attention that the login sound for Linux Lite did come from an existing source, despite my efforts to try and find the original source initially. As a result Linux Lite must replace this sound with an original source.

Thanks to Graham https://plus.google.com/103551780635250917831/posts for producing this for Linux Lite Smile Graham produces original music so check some of it out.

The new Login Sound will be available in your updates soon.

  Keyboard garbled
Posted by: pelouk - 07-18-2014, 04:39 PM - Forum: Installing Linux Lite - Replies (4)

Just a newbie as of today and trying to get started but I've hit a real stumbling block with my keyboard input.

I'm using a Medion laptop which has a feature which has never been a problem in the past but is now. It has the usual qwerty layout but several of the keys (e.g. the J K and L) have numeral superscripts. Since installation, I find that unless I hold the Fn key down while typing such characters, I get nonsense - for example, "keyboard" comes out as "2eyb6rd".

I've checked that my keyboard is registered under system as "English UK" but can't figure out how to correct this. I can't even use my password and am sending this from another machine.

Can anyone help, please?

  [SOLVED] Champions of Regnum
Posted by: Norm - 07-18-2014, 04:37 PM - Forum: Games Support - Replies (1)

After finally installing Linux Lite to my ancient Dell Optiplex 740 today, I went ahead and installed Steam. After that, via steam, I tried to install the game that I play on windoze. Champions of Regnum. I didn̈́'t hold out much hope that it would work as a previous Ubuntu install failed to run it. LL runs it fine!
So anyone looking for a full feature game that is totally free to play should certainly give it a try.

  Screen resolution stuck on 640x480
Posted by: Marktech - 07-18-2014, 10:12 AM - Forum: Video Cards - Replies (2)

Hi, all -

I've just started using Linux Lite, and this is my first post here: I have a little problem!  Wink

My neighbours gave me an old E-System Sorrento laptop which they frankly said wasn't much cop even when it was new, but it turns out to be perfectly adequate for occasional use -- once it has a lightweight Linux distro on it.  It has an Intel Celeron C900 single-core processor, and integrated graphics: I tried a live session of Linux Lite, and installed.

The live session defaulted to a resolution of 1024-768 at 61Hz, which was perfect; but the install uses 640x480, and I can't change it.

Running xrandr gives me 640x480 as the only option.

I attach a copy of system-info output.

I'd be very grateful for any help: I'd really like to use this distro on this system, and as it stands it's not really usable!
