  Preferred Applicatations?
Posted by: petesoderman - 09-15-2014, 02:34 PM - Forum: Other - Replies (6)

I'm a new user of LL, coming from the Windows world. Although I've played with various flavors of Mint in the last few years, I'm trying to move to LL permanently. I'm having a problem on three different machines that's driving me nuts. No matter how many times I set Chromium (or Chrome) as "preferred," when I open the application, it tells me it's not the default. When I click on a hyperlink in an email, I get a box asking me to choose an application (and Chromium is never a "choice." Have seen this problem in Mint occasionally, is this a Linux thing, or is there a permanent fix? Thank you.

  Remove New Document/Presentation/Spreadsheet from menu
Posted by: Eric - 09-14-2014, 10:32 PM - Forum: Installing Software - Replies (4)

Hi,

I am new to LinuxLite and like what I see.

While configuring it to my liking I removed the default LibreOffice installation using 'apt-get purge libreoffice?' and then installed the latest version from the deb files.

Everything worked OK apart from being left with the New Document/Presentation/Spreadsheet entries in the Office menu which no longer work (the new LibreOffice 4.3 entries are fine).  The original menu entries are not shown in the Main Menu editor and I've looked in the xfce-applications menu files and cannot see how they get included.

How do I hide/remove these menu entries?

Watermark by Josh Peterson (Linux Lite Remix)
Posted by: AL13N - 09-14-2014, 06:17 PM - Forum: Wallpapers - Replies (17)

Three remixes of the Blogger Watermark template* by Josh Peterson.  One in the original Parchment (#C0A154), one Grey (#666666) and one Light Coral (#F08080).

*Click here to see it in action (along with a Linux Lite review).

Wallpapers were created with Gimp using the following elements:

1. body_background_birds.png  (Pattern)
2. body_overlay_birds.png  (Layer)
3. Linux_Lite_feather.png  (Layer)

Linux_Lite_feather was scaled to 40% and colorified to #E2D4B1 (Parchment), #C0C0C0 (Grey) and #F8C5C5 (Light Coral).  body_overlay_birds was distributed 6 from top edge and -5 from right edge.

Below are the wallpapers in 4:3 and 16:9 formats (1024x768 / 1366x768):

UPDATE: 1920x1080 resolution added in [iurl=https://dfgkh547-jsdfv8.iyhkj.tk/forums/index.php?topic=872.msg5415#msg5415]post #11[/iurl].

  WPS Office suite

Using it now, seems to be easier for windows migrants. IMO. It is formerly known as Kingsoft . I am finding conflicting info on weather it is open source or not. Maybe someone can fill me in. I  also want to check out xfdashboard, a Gnome like super-key search

  [Solved] Strange title in Grub2
Posted by: gayle - 09-13-2014, 06:58 AM - Forum: Installing Linux Lite - Replies (4)

I just did a clean install and I noticed something strange in Grub2. It says "Description:      Linux Lite 2.0" instead of just plain "Linux Lite 2.0". This is generated by the lsb_release -d command in /etc/default/grub:

Code:
gayle@lite:~$ lsb_release -d
Description:    Linux Lite 2.0

Is there any way to change this?

  Hello from Amsterdam
Posted by: gayle - 09-13-2014, 06:52 AM - Forum: Introductions - Replies (5)

Hi All,

Just wanted to introduce myself. I am a linux fan from Amsterdam and I have been using Ubuntu from way back in the good ol' days. But I just cannot get used to Unity, Gnome3 or KDE. Basically, I really love XFCE4! But even Xubuntu became more a nuisance than a joy.  I have tried other distro's like Arch, Manjaro, SuSE and Fedora but I guess I am just a debian kind-a-gal Smile

So I went looking for an alternative and stumbled upon Linux Lite, installed it and I am really liking it.

Gayle.

Posted by: Alex - 09-12-2014, 11:17 AM - Forum: On Topic - Replies (3)

While watching YouTube vids i find that the Computer will suddenly go into hibernation avery about 15 minutes. I have played around with the power settings in GUi but no see-able change in behavior.

I suspect that i need some over-riding terminal commands...any suggestions?

Thanks
