  The Check Media Feature Annoyance
Posted by: TuxInAGalaxy - 01-01-2020, 07:41 PM - Forum: Suggestions and Feedback - Replies (1)

I'm playing around with Linux Lite 4.6.  Many of your Ubuntu based Distros come with a "Check Media" feature on the live ISO.  The first thing I don't understand is why all Linux Distros don't have this feature.  The second thing I don't understand is how the feature is put together.  For example.  As I was running it on my Linux Lite 4.6 DVD I noticed that it doesn't tell you the results.  When it stops it simply tells you to press any key to reboot your system.  I was messing around with it in Virtualbox, I was running it in virtualbox, and I wanted to bring up my terminal.  So I pressed ctrl+alt+t.  Not realizing I had the virtualbox window selected, the Check Media began showing me what it was doing in the background.  It was running md5sum checks.  At least when It was in that mode it told me my results.  Why are these results hidden by default?

  Very basic question
Posted by: Tyrannocaster - 01-01-2020, 04:55 PM - Forum: Other - Replies (9)

But I can't figure out how to find the answer via Search. How do I use the underlined right-mouse-button shortcuts in Thunar? For example, the Rename function has an underlined shortcut of "R", but using lower or upper-case R just opens up what looks like a search field in the bottom of the pane. Ditto for Properties, etc. I have searched for tips on using Thunar in general but still haven't found this, so I must be looking in the wrong place or using the wrong search terms.

Thanks!

  Want to change some emblems
Posted by: Tyrannocaster - 01-01-2020, 04:17 PM - Forum: Installing Software - Replies (1)

I would like to add or at least change some emblems (found under the file's Properties). I just discovered these, which seem to function like the labels I used to use when I used a Mac. I set up my mp3s with a few different labels on the Mac, so I started going through the emblems in LL to do something similar. I need to get an emblem that says "don't like" or something similar. At the moment, all I can find that works well visually is the the red exclamation point for "Important", and that works, but it seems kludgy.

How do you customize these? Can I change an emblem's text? The graphic?

Thanks?

feedback on initial system update following installation
Posted by: Orobas - 01-01-2020, 01:13 PM - Forum: Suggestions and Feedback - Replies (3)

Little bit annoyed and miffed why there is no progress display or update to show when you are updating the system after install. Once you reboot from install and follow the on screen menu that pops up.. the first item is update system, but when selected and click on update, the box closes and then there is nothing to say if it is doing anything, how far through it is or anything without having to open up processes in terminal which is highly annoying and not clear for new users to linux.

Have i missed something on the update side of things or is this how it is please.

This is on a toshiba laptop, 2gb ram, 500gb hd and a dual core centrino cpu.

  New to Linux Lite
Posted by: Orobas - 01-01-2020, 11:48 AM - Forum: Introductions - Replies (2)

Happy new year firstly to all.

I'm Orobas from the UK. I'm also a senior mod for another highly ranked linux operating system which i have been involved with since 2004 which sadly is on the verge of closing down due to the owner being awol with real life commitments. I've been using debian and ubuntu based linux systems on and off since 1993 where my first experience was with knoppix and since then, linux has always been there as a back up pc for when my windows or mac pc's go down. I like to keep 1 windows, 1 mac and 1 linux desktop on the go along with 1 windows and 1 linux laptop. I also use a raspberry pi with various arm linux versions.

Looking forward to working with you folks here on this forum
