hp nc 4200 laptop performance test
Posted by: minesheep - 03-02-2020, 08:57 PM - Forum: Off Topic - No Replies

Not ready yet! Only a waste of time to read until this is done
Intel pentium M 1,73GHz
2GB of ram (more installed manually to get 2GB)
original 60gb hdd

Note:I had FullDiskEncryption enabled, may slow down some hdd intensive tasks

I will make a zip file with png screenshots of different kind of tests as this is the easiest method to post it. it will also get updates as I do more performance testing

v1 contains 7z and raw disk benchmark (unencryped) need to get better way to share it maybe dropbox? (link to random possible unsafe service removed myself)

Requests:App selection during setup / LL 'core' edition
Posted by: pedrito - 03-02-2020, 07:21 PM - Forum: Suggestions and Feedback - Replies (8)

Hi all.
I have been using LL for about 3 years now and i love it. In a professional context, I am more and more seriously considering to test its
industrialized integration into a mixed MS/GNU corporate environment (managed with MS AD) in order to confront the challenge
and the work it represents.

Around this project, I have 2 suggestions / requests:

- Could the system installer get an optional "custom applications" setting UI that would allow the user
to remove some applications (or even better discard their installation) or install others during LL setup ?
Moreover if this setting tool used an installation list that could be exported/imported it would be great:
Admin or users could create default application profiles for computers with different usage.
Useful in a corporate environment.
- Is a "core" edition of LL meaningful in your opinion ? I mean a lighter edition that would only ship the
the applications/system tools required to configure/support/secure the system but no office, media, or user accessories apps ?

Well you can see these both requests are linked :-)
Thx a lot for reading guys.

Cuando borro archivos o carpetas, no pasan por la papelera (que la tengo en el escritorio), sino que se borran permanentemente.
còmo se hace para que vayan a la papelera?

can I use different passwords for boot-up decrypt and for admin?
Posted by: Searchernow - 03-01-2020, 04:27 PM - Forum: Installing Linux Lite - Replies (2)

Hi,

I am going to fresh install LL.4 with full disc encryption, single boot, and I would like to confirm that I can have different passwords for
1: login FDE decrypt
2: day-to-day user/admin, authentication of updates, unlocking email client etc.

The LL manual seems to say yes, 2 separate passwords, but I'd like to be sure.

More important, the procedure for Resetting your Password, does that also apply to a FDE password?

Thanks.

UEFI downloads for next LTS Linux-Lite
Posted by: kat - 02-26-2020, 06:45 PM - Forum: On Topic - Replies (1)

Hi, developers of the one and only, best, Linux there is!

I have tried several different linux distros and like Linux-Lite the best, even over Ubuntu, one of the supposedly most popular distros! I recently went to download Ubuntu and had to get Gdebi to be able to download Google Chrome and Minecraft easily without any hassles. I had to get VLC media player, Gimp, and Gparted. You guys have it all there ready and easy to use!
Anyway, to my question here. I have an Acer Chromebook 15 CB5-571 that I redid the bios firmware so that I could clean install linux to it. BUT, it will only boot into a linux distro that supports UEFI. Ubuntu does, and you guys have one for Linux-Lite 4.2 which I have and have upgraded to 4.8, and everything runs nicely. I know that the new LTS is coming in a few months and have read in the forums here that you won't make any more with the UEFI boot. I am asking to not forget us who need that UEFI boot. PLEASE, will you make the next Linux-Lite LTS with a UEFI boot? I don't know if I can stand to have to go to Ubuntu just to run linux on my Chromebook.

Thanks,
Karen A.

Brightness Issue on HP - Dv6
Posted by: JordanGfx - 02-25-2020, 06:03 PM - Forum: Other - Replies (12)

Hello Guys,

I have an old dell dv6 laptop, all working well apart from the brightness graphic would slide up or down with the hotkeys but brightness would not change.

So I looked through all your threads on fixing the brightness control issue, i tried the fix where i add the app called brightness and add an entry to the start up applications, with the command that was something like xbrightness -20 or whatever value.

This did nothing.

So i then did the fix where i added the file called '20-intel.conf' to a certain folder and rebooted (with some commands in there). This actually made my brightness permanently more dim which was much easier on the eyes, but still impossible to alter up or down after this point.

So then it tried the fix in this link and this sucessfully updated the grub file: once i added the new commands:

https://www.debugpoint.com/2016/10/2-way...ntu-linux/

Then when i rebooted my brightness was stuck on MAX and the slider wont move at all now, also the GUI based brightness app i then installed from this link but appears nowhere on the system, so maybe only works with AMD graphics cards or not this version of linux?

Could someone please help me in the right direction?

I've tried to now undo all these steps and go back to the 20-intel.conf method to atleast lower my brightness so i can use my laptop without it keeping me awake all night, but even that wont work now and i dont have a snapshot from the fresh install.

Will I have to reformat and re-install all over again ?

Poor first time experience of Linux Lite so far, but everything else is amazing and it has worked wonders on reviving my wifes old laptop so would love some advice as love everything else about this Distro of linux so far!! Smile
