  Hello
Posted by: trimis - 08-09-2021, 11:11 PM - Forum: Introductions - Replies (2)

I have been using Linux Mint in LiveCD mode for online shopping/banking a couple years now. Recently found out it is moving to the darkside (adding telemetry), so I am looking for a replacement. I have ordered LiveCD of Linux Lite 5.2 off eBay for a test drive; due to arrive in a month or less. Looks like I will be needing help with the firewall. According to Google it's very different from what I'm used to.

  Help Requested, wifi not working
Posted by: BlueFox - 08-09-2021, 08:43 PM - Forum: Network - Replies (7)

Wifi quit working. Have tried for hours to get it back. Not able to change setting "Enable Wi-Fi" when trying to check the box it does not check.

Not sure if my laptop has a physical wifi switch or not. Have tried to get some information about the switch without success.
I deleted all the saved wifi network connections in hopes that after rebooting the laptop i would have the oppertunity to reconnect, however No wifi network shows as available.

All my other devices work ok on wifi.

Your help will be greatly appreciated!

Should we take the elementary OS approach?
Posted by: valtam - 08-09-2021, 07:07 AM - Forum: On Topic - Replies (18)

Google keeps changing it's advertising algorithm with the latest change hurting us the most.

I'm at a bit of a crossroads personally.

Either we seek alternative ways to keep this OS alive and on a steady growth path, or I look for something else to do with my time.

If we take the 'elementary OS' approach whereby they do this with their download link:

(you can enter 0 for the amount and still get a free download link, we would do the same)

I would look at reducing reliance on Google AdSense if this approach gave our OS a future.

This does not imply that I am thinking of leaving the project, on the contrary, I'm always looking for ways to keep it viable. Last month I was offered a 6 figure sum by a US based Acquisitions company, and I turned it down. Food for thought.

Do we give this proven approach a go?

Can Linux Lite be updated when using persistent live USB version?
Posted by: musicismylife - 08-08-2021, 06:42 PM - Forum: Installing Software - Replies (12)

I'm very new to Linux. I don't want to install it to replace Windows on my laptop.  For my laptop it won't allow for installing LL as an additional OS.

I've been operating LL on persistent live USB for several months but have not been able to do any updates to any components.  I get the error message below.  Is is not possible to do updates while using LL in this way?

  Another Look at Systemd...
Posted by: Artim - 08-08-2021, 05:28 PM - Forum: Off Topic - Replies (1)

Here is a little different explanation of why systemd has been so widely adopted in most Linux distros. Since most of the stuff I find online is so rabidly anti-systemd, I think it's only fair to post a succinct explanation of why it is used in Debian, Ubuntu, and Linux Lite. Enjoy!

Installing/runnig LL 5.4 on Lenovo Think Pad x100e
Posted by: angu5020 - 08-07-2021, 08:48 PM - Forum: Installing Linux Lite - No Replies

Hello,
I'm trying to install LL 5.4 on my old Lenovo Think Pad x100e.
The device has a BIOS.

It sucessfully boots from USB. I can see the initall screen to select to run LL or install it.
The installation/live boot works unitl some point. It seems just before rebooting it just shuts down. But I'm not sure if it is trying to reboot or some other error is ocurring before.
It happens so fast I can not even see an error message.

I have a Win10 installation on the device already but plan to whipe it entily to only run LL on the system.

Cannot get my bluetooth to work at all
Posted by: finbarrus - 08-06-2021, 11:37 AM - Forum: Network - Replies (3)

I have Linux Lite on a fairly old Lenovo S21e laptop.  Previously I ran Cinnamon Mint but changed to LL because of very limited memory. Generally it works fine, but unlike Mint, where the BT did work, I just cannot seem to get the BT up and running. I installed/uninstalled bluez, then blueman (on now) - no joy.

All I want is to be able to use a BT mouse without dongle and to connect my BT headphones.

Thanks in advance for any tips / tricks / fixes
