[SOLVED] Cannot remove Mumble & (Ristretto-) Image Viewer Whiskermenu entries
Posted by: lurchis - 06-07-2014, 03:40 PM - Forum: Installing Software - Replies (6)

Hey!
I removed Mumble & Ristretto via Synaptic Package Manager. But the menu-entries remained in the Whiskermenu.
I then removed the corresponding  *.desktop - files in the following folders (and rebooted):

-/usr/share/applications &
-/.local/share/applications

I uninstalled Whiskermenu and used the classic xfce-menu - the entries were still there. Now I'm back to Whiskermenu still searching for a solution to get rid of the entries.

What else could I try? Thanks in advance from a Linux beginner.
Pat

I have been using Linux Lite on a 2nd machine since the first version was released. That 2nd machine is mainly used by my wife and son for all their computing needs.

I was a member on the old linux distro forums but thought it about time I joined the new swanky forum.

Install LinuxLite 2.0 - Kernel panic during boot
Posted by: hajo - 06-06-2014, 07:47 AM - Forum: Installing Linux Lite - Replies (2)

I burned LinuxLite 2.0/32bit to a cd, booted it, and it stops with an error
"kernel panic - not syncing - attempted to kill init - exitcode=0x0000100".

The md5 of the downloaded iso is ok,
burning + read-check were ok,
and my cpu can do pae.

Booting with safe-mode ends in the same crash,
but in the messages flying by on the console
I saw something like "squashfs error - failed to read block ..."

Is there a way to page-back in the console-output ?

Also, I would like to suggest
* Boot-option for checking the cd
* readme-file about linuxlite & install in the cd-root

Selecting the Best Download Server in Synaptic Package Manager
Posted by: dayooper - 06-05-2014, 09:58 PM - Forum: On Topic - Replies (1)

In the Help Manual under "Software Updates" subheading "Your Software Updates Country Location", it recommends to pick a download server with the word "ubuntu" in the name. I did so. However, when I hit the button "select best server", it gives me "mirror.hmc.edu". Which one is the best (safest and fastest) download server?

  Using Java to run software
Posted by: Colin23erk - 06-05-2014, 09:13 PM - Forum: Installing Software - Replies (11)

Hi
Has anyone tried to to get a .jar file to run in Java .
OpenJDK 7 Runtime Environment is already loaded in Lite 2.

When I right click on the jar.jar file from a storage clipboard program called "KeepBoard" I get the option to open with "openJkd java 7 runtime"
When I click on it nothing appears to happen .

It also has a "start.sh" file which does not work for me

I have downloaded it to win 7 and it runs OK from the "start.sh" file
