I have 2 laptops that connect via a wireless router to the internet that I would like to connect together in a network to move files etc between the laptops
Looking on the net there appears to be no way in Linux to do it via a GUI (aka Win7 ).
If Linux Lite is to replace Microsoft it needs a simple Home Networking capability for people who just want it work with the minimum of knowlege

How to get a ZTE MF180 USB Modem to work on an ASUS X451CA laptop with Linuxlite 2.
Option 1
Insert Modem
Boot System
“sudo lsusb” shows
Bus 003 Device 003: ID 19d2:0117 ZTE WCDMA Technologies MSM
In File Manager under drives “ZTE MMC Storage” shows
After some time the Modem will be available in “Network Connections”
Option 2
Boot System
Insert Modem
“sudo lsusb” shows
Bus 003 Device 003: ID 19d2:2000 ZTE WCDMA Technologies MSM MF627/MF628/MF628+/MF636+ HSDPA/HSUPA
“sudo rmmod usb-storage”
“sudo lsusb” still shows
Bus 003 Device 003: ID 19d2:2000 ZTE WCDMA Technologies MSM MF627/MF628/MF628+/MF636+ HSDPA/HSUPA
sudo modprobe usb-storage
- Under drives “ZTE USB SCSI CD-ROM: Telecom Modem” shows-up
- Under devices “Telecom Modem” shows-up
- On Desktop “Telecom Modem” shows-up
Eject “Telecom Modem” from desktop
“sudo lsusb” now shows
Bus 003 Device 004: ID 19d2:0117 ZTE WCDMA Technologies MSM
- Under drives “ZTE USB SCSI CD-ROM” and “ZTE MMC Storage” show-up
- In “Network Connections” the modem can now be used
After some time the Modem will be available in “Network Connections”
PS. On a HP DV6000 laptop just insert it after boot and it will show up in “Network Connection”.

| Wifi USB Adapter stops working intermittently |

My internal Wifi failed to see my Router soon after I started with Linux so I installed a USB dongle I had
The dongle works OK for a while and then I loose my Internet but not the wifi connection . If I disconnect/connect wifi it works ok for a while . There does not appear to be a pattern to when it fails.
It is a Realtek RTL8188CUS 802.11n using WLAN Adaptor driver : rtl8192cu which is also installed in WinXP
I am hoping someone can give me a solution that I can understand preferably using GUI as other than trying to sort the problems I have had I have no need to learn CLI . I just want to do everyday tasks on my computer.
I have searched the Internet and there could be an issue with the Linux Drivers rtl 8192cu for the Realtek Adapter . Unfortunately for me the solutions mostly involve using Command Line . I have tried some but get confused when they are not recognized.
With the many flavors of Linux I am not sure if they all should work in Lite 2 . Also having only a very limited knowledge of CLI its difficult to know if the commands given require me to be in the correct command structure before they will work .
Also the outputs are in such an abbreviated form that needs converted to normal language to know what they mean !!!!

| Java problem in Chrome |

I have an odd problem recently, Java works in Firefox, but not in Chrome. I can't understand how to tackle this, since it working in Firefox seems to indicate that the plugin is installed properly.
It has always been a bit troublesome in Chrome, but now it claims not to be installed in Chrome on many sites, and this is clearly not the case.
Is this a known problem? Haven't found anything searching in old and new forums.

Starting CD/DVD Burner I get
Failed to initialise gstreamer transcoder: An error occurred setting gstreamer up for transcoding. (falling back to basic implementation.)
Do I assume this means I need to install a gstreamer add-on and in which case what would that be?
Thanks

Just passing this along cuz I have a soft spot for LL:
1. I install Linux Lite.
2. I boot to Linux Mint, my keeper distro.
3. I edit Grub Customizer to my tastes. Its description for Lite: menuentry script:os-prober.
4. I try to boot into Lite; get some 'expected filename' error message.
5. I reinstall Lite and also install Grub Customizer there. Its description: menuentry script:linux / default name: description: Linux Lite 2.0 GNU/Linux. By the way, I didn't edit those lines, just the first-line names.
It works fine that way, probably because of the differences up there. It very well could've been my error, but I've done steps 1-3 on dozens of distros and Lite is the first to trip me up. I've also tried all this more than once to confirm that it's repeatable. I can email pix if you like.
