  [SOLVED] Change Hostname
Posted by: benjyz - 07-03-2014, 10:30 PM - Forum: Network - Replies (10)

Hi Guys,

I'm looking for help on how to change my laptops hostname.

For some reason it's got the same hostname as my netbook which also has linux lite; I installed it on both of them at the same time.

Thank's in advance for your help.

Setting up a Home Partiion queries
Posted by: Colin23erk - 07-03-2014, 09:17 PM - Forum: Installing Linux Lite - Replies (4)

I had a Windows OS and  Data on  separate partitions so that I could re-install Windows without loosing my Data .
When I installed Lite I installed it on a new partition so I can Duel Boot and use the  NTFS Data Partition with both after using the NTFS configure tool to enable Lite to read and write to my old files.

After messing about with problems with Bluetooth Audio and a USB WiFi adapter I would like to restore Lite to its default state . The only wayto do this  involves a New install and re-doing the settings etc again

Looking on the Forums there does not appear to be a way to
1-  "Repair" Linux installations .
2- Install Lite and keep my setup
3- Save my Setup options and reapply them after a new install
4 - Make a backup  of the Lite OS to allow a quick install later as I did with Windows

I am wondering if to save some time later I should Create a Home Partition so that I at least can keep that safe during a re-install. I do not keep much Data in my "Home folder"as I created shortcuts to my Folders in my shared Data partition

Does anyone have any advice
(a) Is it possible with Lite .
(b) Is it a good thing to do .
© What is the simplest way to achieve it using GUI as I am getting too old and need prompts .

I am not good at blindly following commands until I understand what they are  supposed to be doing so if something goes wrong I know how to fix it .

Colin

Wifi adapter Intel Wireless 3945 not working
Posted by: srinig82 - 07-03-2014, 03:57 PM - Forum: Network - Replies (1)

Hi,

I tried all existing forums on ubuntuforums.org but I could not find a solution. My PC is a Toshiba Satellite M105-S3041 and its wireless adapter is Intel Wireless 3945abg adapter. My issue is that the wireless LED never turns ON. It is always off. lshw and ifconfig do not list my adapter in hardware. Please I need help. I had ubuntu 12 installed it a while and that detected the wireless adapter fine but that OS is too slow. Linux lite 2.0 is very fast. Otherwise I am extremely happy with the OS.

Thanks in advance,
Srini

Hi everyone,

I went through the Forums today and did a bit of a tidy up. All bluetooth threads now belong under Network.
There were a lot of posts in On Topic that were better suited to Installing Software and Installing Linux Lite, could I ask people to please take their time in choosing an accurate category for their threads. Thank you.

If you have any suggestions on how the Forums can better serve you, then please feel free to make them here - https://dfgkh547-jsdfv8.iyhkj.tk/forums/index.php?board=3.0 Smile

Trying to move from XP to Linux
Posted by: Frits - 06-30-2014, 09:37 PM - Forum: Introductions - Replies (3)

Hello all,

Currently I'm doing my first attempts at linux on an old Shuttle pc with an AMD XP 3000+ processor and 1 GB RAM. I still use this machine for web surfing, text editing and some spreadsheet work. I've installed Xubuntu 12.04 LTS alongside Win XP and ran into issues with flash player (won't play) and a minor problem with sound (microphone input not audible on line-out). I gather that these problems are caused by the Shuttle's old (unsupported?) hardware. The upside is that Xubuntu's apps run nicely on this pc and it "feels" responsive.

OK, here I am already with some questions: I understand that LL is based on Ubuntu 14.04. With LL, can I expect more problems regarding old hardware support than I have in Xubuntu 12.04 LTS? And will the Shuttle still feel as responsive with LL?

Thank you in advance for your reply.

Error setting permissions function not implemented
Posted by: T1125P - 06-30-2014, 07:09 PM - Forum: On Topic - Replies (11)

Hi all, I keep getting this message "error setting permissions function not implemented" every time I copy files from my harddrive to my USB stick. It is formated using the exFAT filesystem. It works fine in Linux the file copies but that message always pops up I click yes to all then resumes the copy. Is there a way to fix that? If I remember, in Lite v1.0.6 exFAT worked without that error message. Oh one more thing is there a way to add another entry in the right click context menu when you click on a file? I want to add the move to folder command it has the copy command but also would love the move to command something like windows 7 has .

Thanks.

  Xfce4-screenshooter: blurred images
Posted by: Kirkx - 06-30-2014, 08:54 AM - Forum: Other - Replies (4)

When I take a screenshot with Xfce4-screenshooter half of the time the image is blurred. It seems to depend on the type of window which is active.

Full window - blurred image:

www.zimagez.com/zimage/screenshot-06302014-024639am.php

Sub-window - no blurring:

http://www.zimagez.com/zimage/screenshot...2543am.php

When you save the screenshot file on the hard drive and open it with Ristretto you can see that the image was not saved with the zoom at 100% but at 70%, 80%, etc. Is there a way to force Xfce4-screenshooter to always save images at 100% zoom?
