I recently built myself a new PC (just like i said I would), and have installed Linux Lite as one of the OSes, and the OS seems to be ever faster on it! However, I have a problem with a game I'm trying to play (and maybe others too), there's no sound...
The game is called Mania Drive, and it worked perfectly on my old Laptop, albeit with frame-rate issues, but no problems when it came to sound.
On my new, top of the range PC, it can't play sound at all! No matter what I try, I can't get anything out of it!
I tried running the game using the terminal, and this was what came out:
Code: Raydium: Raydium 3D Game Engine

I noticed it said it was unable to load the sound system, but when I went to look it up, I only found one, unresolved topic, made years ago, about this issue.
I can't test any other games yet, as I've still to install any more, I'm downloading Super Tux Kart to see if the same problem occurs there, but my internet is being pretty slow right now, and it would take ages to download the full thing, so I can't do anything until then. If it helps, VLC has sound, and so does anything I play on Firefox.
EDIT: I also tried playing something from a CD in VLC while playing the game, the game cut off the sound completely! I can't play it again!
So what do I do?

First time poster in any forum.
I have recently installed Linux Lite 2.0 64 bit on my computer (Update from previous version 1.08.)
I have done all the updates after install.
I went to Synaptic Package Manager to install compiz and discovered it was already installed.
I closed Synaptic Package Manager and went to the Whisker Menu to start compiz but could not locate it.
I typed in compiz in the search bar and came up with nothing.
I went to Synaptic Package Manager and installed the compiz fusion icon, went to whisker menu, clicked on compiz fusion. It is on the panel but still will not open.
I had no problem with compiz in Linux Lite 1.08. How do you get it to work in Linux Lite 2.0?

I really like Linux Lite.
Until a couple months ago I had never experienced Linux. With XP support ending though, and old hardware which did not justify the cost of a new Windows OS it felt like time to give it a try. I did not have anyone I knew to suggest distos at the time, or how one might go about choosing/installing/using Linux. So, I started with Mint on one of my old machines, and after a couple false starts, found a OS I liked that worked with Mint 13 Mate. But there are so many Distros out there, I was bitten by the bug and quickly tried labuntu, Puppy, antiX, xubuntu, Debian, LXLE, PCLinuxOS, and Linux Lite.
Some were "buggy" (at least with my old systems). Some I honestly did not care for based upon appearance; I like a pretty simple uncluttered Desktop ... and with that many distros out there, well you can be picky. Some I liked a lot, but they were from a different "branch" that would require learning new commands (what no "sudo", really?). Several did not like my antiquated hardware.
Here is the other piece though - coming from a Windows-centric world when you have problems where you start with a google search, but can fall back to Microsoft.com, support in Linux becomes an concern. Where is the support for all the distros in Linus? It's in the forums, and it's free, but much of it is distro specific, so support becomes a relatively small group of people!
Even in my brief explorations of other Distros I have had to seek out assistance in the Distro specific forums, and at least in my experience - NONE can match this forum for real help, given promptly by extremely bright, talented individuals that not only offer assistance, but do so with a positive and for lack of a better word "kind-hearted" attitude. Valtam, gold_finger, and many others .. the answer is given with a smile, not a snide remark that makes you feel stupid that you had to "ask that". It's why I recommend (or at least a big part of) Linux Lite to others.
So, thanks for that (and don't go anywhere please)!

| Cannot Open Help MANUAL < Solved > |

Sorry, I am sure there is an easy fix here, but I have not found it (maybe because I can't get into the Help Manual ), and have not found anything searching the forum.
When I select "Help Manual" from the Menu, "Package Installer" pops up and tries to open it and says it's not a "Debian package "or something, and can't open it.
I expect at some point I opened something by using right click, open with "Package Installer" or something, but can't find a way out of this setting. I have tried looking in settings, preferred applications, etc. but no luck so far.
Any guidance would be appreciated. Thanks,
Chris

I just installed Linux Lite for my mother. She's been running Windows 7, but her system has been wrecked by malware (she's not the only one in the house who uses the machine). She was complaining about how slowly it's been running lately and about the ads, popups, etc. I decided that rather than format the drive and reinstall Windows, I would just replace it with a Linux distro. I tested a few, and Linux Lite seemed best suited for the job.
Looking great so far. Doing a dist-upgrade at the moment. She'll be getting back into town, Monday, and I'm going to surprise her with it!
Hope everyone is doing well, and thanks for the cool distro!

Have you guys considered adding an option to install the pepperflashplugin-nonfree package to go along with the Chromium Web Browser?
If Chrome/Netflix is installed it wouldn't be necessary to install separately but for those who just need Chromium it may be a nice option.
I'm testing Chromium/Pepperflash in LL2/64 and have had no problems. I have a few additional notes that could be helpful if interested.

| Speeding my boot |

Now I have the right desktop and language I thought I'd see if I could speed up the boot time before I handed over the laptop to my wife.
I'll remove Bluetooth and printer from the autoload as she does not use either of them.
One of the things that have come up with Google is the reprofiling of the boot. I'll paste the text below. Can someone with an understanding of Linux Lite let me know whether it is something to try. Thanks
Tony..........
Go to the terminal and type in
sudo gedit /etc/default/grub
enter your root password, and wait for a file to open up.
look for the line that says
GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="quiet splash"
and remove the words "quiet" and "splash" ( NOTE : THIS WILL DISABLE YOUR LINUX MINT SPLASH SCREEN, it doesnt help THAT much, but in my opinion it helps a little. )
also, add the word "profile" into that space. this wiill profile your boot and make it faster everytime, ( NOTE : THE FIRST BOOT AFTERDOING THIS WILL MOST LIKELY BE SLOWER, DONT WORRY! IT IS JUST REPROFILING YOUR BOOT NOW )
So basically make that line look like this --
GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="profile"
Save and exit!
Open up a terminal again and type
Sudo update-grub2
enter root password, wait for it too update, and then restart your computer.

Hello,
Zyxware technologies Pvt Ltd.(http://www.zyxware.com) is a Free Software company which has been actively contributing to Free Software and offering commercial services around Free Software for individuals, enterprises and government organizations across India. To create and promote an awareness about Free Software and related freedoms in society, we have also organized Free Software campaigns like Freedom Walk across our home state of Kerala, Freedom Toaster, a kiosk to get a burned DVD of desired distribution of GNU / Linux, etc..
One of our offerings to FOSS community in India is a 'Request CD' program through which we send across CDs and DVDs of GNU / Linux distributions (and other FOSS software) to people across India on demand at a nominal charge. This service is especially useful for users who hail from remote locations in India and do not have access to high speed internet service and for those who have to pay a large amount of money for the data downloads when they have internet access.
We have added your distribution to our online shop www.zyxware.com/shop. The link is http://www.zyxware.com/requestcd?&distri...Linux+Lite It would be great if we could formalize our relationship by registering as a vendor on your website so that FOSS users from across India can procure the CDs/DVDs through our program. We hope for a positive response and look forward to a successful association with your esteemed organisation.
Thanking you,
Sindhu
