And now a word from our sponsor ...

Quote:As a relative newby myself and having tried Manjaro COL as well as some other distros, I would recommend Linux Lite 2.0 https://dfgkh547-jsdfv8.iyhkj.tk/ instead. Manjaro COL is great but I would not recommend any rolling release for a newby.

Spatry did some great videos on Linux Lite but here are some newer ones https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CwdyUulTk2I by Puppy Linux.

There is also a friendly and helpful forum https://dfgkh547-jsdfv8.iyhkj.tk/forums/ especially for Linux Lite.

Easy install and no partitioning is required.

Wasn't exactly answering the question asked but could not help myself.  ;D

  Installing Avidemux 2.6.8
Posted by: rmcellig - 10-14-2014, 03:00 PM - Forum: Installing Software - Replies (1)

Ever since I changed from the Mac environment to Linux, I have been wanting to find a simple and quick way to save video snippets from video files that I have (avi, mov, mp4, mkv).

Is there anyone out there that actually does this with any success? On the Mac I used MPEG Streamclip with great success. I have been trying to install the latest Avidemux with no success. I tried compiling it from their website. I have also tried installing from ppa when I searched google. Doesn't work.

I am using Linux Lite 2.0. I just want a simple and straightforward way to select snippets from a video file and save those snippets to my HD.

I have tried the following:

Code:
avconv -i input.mkv -ss 00:27:20 -t 00:33:40 -c copy output.mkv

This works but I am not sure what would be a quick way to scrub the video so I could quickly identify the start and end markers. Right now I am using VLC player to search for what I want to mark. Pretty cumbersome. Is there an easier way?

Thanks so much!

All roads lead to Linux Lite
Posted by: dboxall123 - 10-14-2014, 02:50 PM - Forum: Introductions - Replies (5)

Hello everyone!

Linux Lite was my main (and first!) linux OS 2 or 3 years ago. I even won a competition about a year ago, loved it. Since then I've used a lot of distros, finally ending up at Arch, which I've used for about 9 months now. Arch has eventually got kind of annoying, I'm tired of constantly struggling to get certain things working, so I decided to come back to my roots (with my tail between my legs lol). Lite has changed since I got it, I'm loving the whisker menu  8)

I look forward to being part of this community

Next try - I call it "Pepper Meditates"
Posted by: bitsnpcs - 10-13-2014, 09:01 AM - Forum: Member Submitted Artwork - Replies (5)

Hello,
used public domain image of the girl meditating, fixed her hair line as it was broken, fixed her make up as it was half outside her face, recoloured every area of the image 100% in Gimp.
Made the rest myself in Gimp.
Used the pepper brush and put a pepper in her hand as it just seemed nice idea.

  FRACTURE

Just now getting into the Bevel Reflect Logo plug in. It isn't just a plug in, it's an application all of its own. utterly amazing. Has another side benefit, it creates a sphere from the chosen list of Gradients used for the font. Most were discarded, weren't very interesting save for this one in particular. The original appeared to have two parallel rivers flowing across it and thought something interesting may come of them. There are four variants. Here are numbers two and three respectively. There was no fracture initially...that came later.

Didn't play around with colors at first, as shown in example two above. With example three below, just let 'er fly.

  LITE is...?....hmmm...GO.....

    GOLDEN

This font is called "Medusa", and is now my favorite of the Gothics contained in my font listing. There were numerous failed attempts with this one before finally producing something that may be worth presenting.
