Linux Lite 2.2 - Software suggestions
Posted by: valtam - 11-06-2014, 12:32 PM - Forum: Suggestions and Feedback - Replies (49)

If there is a piece of software that you would like to see in Linux Lite 2.2? Please suggest it here.
Before doing this, consider the following criteria:

- Is it widely considered essential? eg. a date and time app is a good example
- Is it something I like to use, or does it have wide appeal? eg. VLC has much wider appeal than Totem. Personal favorites are not good suggestions unless they have wide appeal and are simple to use whilst looking great.
- Just because we are going to DVD size doesn't mean we will include 30 new programs, we must remain 'lite'.

What is so far being added.
- A new simple mouse theme with changeable cursor size.
- Gnome Date and Time
- Lite Welcome
- Added media check to Live boot menu
- Added graphical md5sum check to right click menu
- Added libreoffice-gnome to open office files on a NAS
- Dropped Mumble
- Added inxi
- Added 'File Search' (catfish)
- Added new wallpapers from https://dfgkh547-jsdfv8.iyhkj.tk/forums/index...15#msg5415 and https://dfgkh547-jsdfv8.iyhkj.tk/forums/index...opic=989.0
- URL Menu entries now use exo-open instead of xdg-open
- Adjusted Screensaver and Power Settings to negate settings conflict

Thank you for participating Smile

  df to zenity --list

This script displays the output of

Code:
df -Th
in the zenity list. Maybe we can use this in the future for Lite Backup or some other software.
Tricky part was to display mount when there are spaces in the disk label in the same column.
Here is the script:

Hi, I'm regularfella, aka Lance.

No more distro hopping for me. This is what I've been looking for. I've installed Linux Lite 2.0 on my Acer Aspire 1410. It has a Core 2 Solo and 3gb ram, 250gb hdd.

Everything worked out of the box. My favorite apps were a breeze to install and this distro runs great on this machine. The screen is broken so I've hooked it up to a 1600x900 monitor and even that was detected and ready to go out of the box. Now it serves as a desktop PC with my wireless mouse and keyboard combo.

I first installed the 32 bit version, but now I have the 64 bit version installed. For some reason the machine seems to run faster on x64.

Love the GUI, Love the simplicity. I'll be sticking with Linux Lite for a long time to come.

I would like to see updates pause at the end of updates so you can review all the changes made to your system. I have modified the update script file last few lines to do just that so update does not terminate until you press the [Enter] key.

echo "Updates complete."
echo ""
read -p "Press [Enter] key to exit"

  Blank screen

Hello, I have an Acer aspire 5720, which I loaded Linux Light as a dual system it Windows Vista. When in Linux light,  the screen goes  black after about 10 minutes, even if you're working on the computer. Then you can't wake it back up.  The computer is a 32bit with 2GB memory. Any suggestions?

  Boot Freezes
Posted by: leegold - 11-02-2014, 04:21 PM - Forum: Start up and Shutdown - No Replies

I can't boot LL 12.04.05. I think maybe problems started after I uninstalled that nasty lightdm greeter. But i reinstalled the gtk version and problem still persists. it begins to boot,  I think hardware list goes by and the nvidia splash and then something about saned being disabled and sometimes battery and cups are mentioned  but around then it always stalls. I can get in by choosing grub below the normal start line there's a repair and then repair screen and then continue then do alt-f2 and login and do startx and i get my desktop.

I note that I can not shut-down though. when i do menu> trun off computer I can only logoff user but restart and shutdown are greyed out.

What cold b e problem? Thanks
