  nVidia GTX 870M not detected
Posted by: m654321 - 07-03-2015, 03:54 PM - Forum: Video Cards - Replies (6)

I have LL2.4 installed with Win8.1 in a UEFI enabled dual-boot set-up - working very well.

The laptop is an Asus G750JS, and comes with a dual GPU set-up: that is a default Intel GPU, and an NVidia GPU (Geforce GTX 870M), the latter kicking in when the graphics demand is high, e.g. when gaming. This system seems to work very well in Win8.1.

However, when I boot into LL2.4, the graphics are nothing special: the 'lspci' command in the terminal indeed reveals that only the Intel GPU is detected, not the NVidia one.

My question is how can I:
(1) either silence the Intel GPU and use the NVidia one instead;
(2) or, better still, switch between either GPU whnever the need arises - I've seen online that some use software called bumblebee to do this but I have no experience in this deirection.

I've downloaded the lastest 64-bit linux driver (352.21) for the NVidia GPU from the NVidia website, but don't know how to install it properly.  I think I may have accidently deleted any existing NVidia drivers (331.67) that may have already been on the LL OS.

Any help much appreciated
Kind regards
Mike

  Wifi password not being saved
Posted by: torreydale - 07-03-2015, 01:55 PM - Forum: Network - No Replies

Wifi working at home.  Left to a friend's house.  Used their wifi.  Returning to my home, my wifi network is available, but I had to enter the password as if I were doing it for the first time.

This same issue is happening with 2 laptops I installed LL onto for friends.

After 4 days and nights and watching Michael Moore on his videos 10,000 times,  I finally got everything right and Linux Lite is now installed on a usb 3 thumb drive.  Last week I ordered a usb 3 card and installed it  in my computer.  Then I ordered a thumb drive....It's literally about the size of my thumb nail on my right hand.  It's a 32 GB usb3 thumb drive and it runs fast.
Any way I'm retired and living in East Texas, USA.  So,  hello everybody! ;D

The laptop has an internal wlan disc but it is not on and linux doesnt see any networks (there is wifi network at my place). So I would like to ask what do you suggest me to do, I guess it needs driver but I am a beginner and don't know how to get it and install it.
my computer parameters: DELL inspiron 640m, processor 1.6GHz, RAM 1GB, Dell Wireless 1390 Mini-Card

Thank you very much, I believe this will not be an issue for you guys....could you please give me instructions that I will understand, like I said before I am a linux beginner Smile Thanks

drm:intel_cpu_fifo_underrun_irq_handler [i915] *ERROR* CPU pipe A FIFO underrun

This error started showing up at boot time after updating to the 4.1.0 kernel but It would go by so fast I could never make out what it was. After much searching I was able to find it in the syslog, I have updated to the new 4.1.1 kernel but it still shows up at boot. I have not noticed any difference in my system performance, but I thought it may be affecting something I don't normally use, so I decided to report the problem to the team.  Smile

  MultiSystem LiveUSB Multiboot
Posted by: ??? ???? - 07-02-2015, 03:22 PM - Forum: Installing Software - Replies (6)

I can not install MultiSystem LiveUSB Multiboot. I wanted to ask a question at the forum, but found on the Russian site http://compizomania.blogspot.com/2013/09...iboot.html detailed step by step instructions for installing in Ubuntu and Linux Mint. This installation method for using Mint, I have achieved a positive result in Linux Lite.
Maybe this information will be useful.

        MultiSystem LiveUSB Multiboot -
a great program for creating a bootable flash drives.
To create a bootable USB-drive images from CD / DVD in Ubuntu there are many ways. One of the most powerful and versatile software for problems of this kind - MultiSystem LiveUSB Multiboot. It is very easy to use, easy to install on a computer, has a multilingual interface. Its main feature is the ability to easily create multiboot USB-drives, that is, those which contain multiple images, with a choice at startup. Thus, the space on your flash drive will not be wasted. Because of the nice features is the possibility of a painless removal of unwanted images to free up space, the built-in links to the set of distributions for different purposes, divided into categories and a very impressive number of additional functions, including even an interesting opportunity to test Live-images on the drive using an emulator without leaving system.

Installing MultiSystem LiveUSB Multiboot in Linux Lite:
In Linux Lite you need to connect manually repository: Synaptic -> Setting -> Repositoris->

1) Other software: Add->

2) deb http://liveusb.info/multisystem/depot all main (copy / paste in APT line ),

3) Key Add sourse,

4) Refresh cache and close the Synaptic.

Next, run the following command in the terminal:

wget -q http://liveusb.info/multisystem/depot/multisystem.asc -O- | sudo apt-key add -

sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get install multisystem -y

After that, for example, Xubuntu program once established, and Linux Lite is why some do not. But the opportunity to install it through Synaptic.
The program works very well, it can help set the stick 16 GB 12 distro. The same way to install software on Linux Point.
USB flash drive must be formatted in Fat32 only.

  installing to a usb drive
Posted by: Crazy Larry - 07-02-2015, 08:17 AM - Forum: Installing Linux Lite - Replies (2)

When I get to the page after selecting  Something else....LL doesn't give the option of installing to a flash drive.  I know where I want it installed but no option to get there so I always have to quit at that point.

Restore Linux Lite - Systemback or Timeshift?
Posted by: valtam - 07-02-2015, 01:39 AM - Forum: Suggestions and Feedback - Replies (42)

At some point, we're going to have to include a system restore tool for Linux Lite. Given that our OS is aimed at new folk to linux, this feature is not only expected, but will prove to be a life saver for getting people out of a mess.

Systemback - http://www.unixmen.com/systemback-restor...ous-state/
Timeshift - http://www.teejeetech.in/p/timeshift.html

The following is a community Poll to gauge how you feel about either piece of software and why you like it.

Thank you for your contributions Smile

  Goodbye Windows, hello Linux
Posted by: RCND - 07-02-2015, 12:27 AM - Forum: On Topic - Replies (17)

Howdy All:

I am currently installing Windows 7 on my Mother's Computer. She is elderly and is more comfortable with Windows. It is an upgrade from XP.

I started using Linux after a home build because i did not wish to give Mr. Gates anymore of my hard earned dollars. I started out with Ubuntu 11 (Narwhal) went quickly to Kubuntu.

Since then I have downloaded and used many Distros. The one thing that I can honestly say is every new release gets better and more "Out of the box ready".

My complaint is, I have forgotten all the crap that I have to install to make Windows a semi secure OS. I have been installing second party software for the last three hours and still haven't got to installing her old files.

You guys ROCK, LINUX LITE ROCKS.

See You Later
Robert
