Failed to execute default Web Browser
Posted by: G Hardin - 02-09-2020, 04:37 AM - Forum: Other - Replies (2)

I installed XAMPP 32bit version  5.6.23-0 in Linux Lite version 3.8.  Install went without a problem but whenever I clikc any of the control panel links to go to the XAMPP dashboard, it gives a dialog box that says "Failed to execute default Web Browser" "input/output error."
I only have Chromium installed, but the same error occurs if I remove Chromium and install Firefox.  I have search for "Failed to execute default Web Browser" and can find no solutions that work.  Any ideas?

Folder Manager is messed up in apps very annoying.
Posted by: bscho - 02-08-2020, 01:08 PM - Forum: Installing Linux Lite - Replies (7)

The folder manager works as normal from the desktop but is weir when you use it in apps.

In Gimp when you open and twitter.com when you look for an image to add to your message the unhelpful manager appears.

It lists all the files but does not display the folders these are hidden in the list of files so if you have loads of pictures and lots of folders it is difficult to find the photos yow want.

Tried it on desktop and laptop still weird.

Anyone, know how to fix this or install another Files Manager that might fix this?

  LL torrent seeding
Posted by: Moltke - 02-08-2020, 12:41 PM - Forum: On Topic - Replies (1)

Hi everyone! hope you're all having a nice life and a wonderful 2020! Smile

I recently downloaded LL 4.8 using the torrent file and can confirm that it is being seeded at a very good rate. Well, that was it, I just wanted to say that for those interested in using the torrent file and wonder whether or not is being seeded, it is people and it downloads pretty fast, which I must say is quite rare cause most torrent files I tried for other distros didn't download as fast as LL did and in fact some even didn't download at all.

Cheers! Smile

Posted by: Dookus - 02-07-2020, 02:45 PM - Forum: Installing Linux Lite - Replies (1)

Successfully installed linux-lite-4.2-uefi-64bit on a Dell Latitude e4310 with UEFI enabled, boot from Flash Drive then installed from Desktop to HDD without any errors or problems, then reboot successfully, is there any point in installing to HDD from the boot menu, would it be the same outcome? happy to try that as well.

only problem is unable to update, this occurs after reboot, rebooted and tried twice

Thumb drives how to install LL and make the extra space available as storage
Posted by: Dookus - 02-07-2020, 09:07 AM - Forum: Installing Linux Lite - Replies (10)

Hi all.

I have been trying to install LL 4.8-64bit.iso onto a 2 tb (rated) thumb drive and have the extra space available as storage, is this possible, Persistent drive with Rufus is only up to 4gb, balenaEtcher has no offerings, I'm looking to have LL on a 2GB partition and have the rest of the drive as storage, how can I do this?

  Movie-Monad
Posted by: diskrod - 02-07-2020, 12:04 AM - Forum: Installing Software - Replies (2)

I recently downloaded and installed Movie-Monad which is able to to convert a video into a gif. When I try to open a video no matter what format, it won't open.  Am I missing something? Any help is appreciated. Yes, I've tried Gifcurry but at the top of the dialog window, I get a message saying ffmpeg has missing codecs. Any help is appreciated...thanks in advance.

  A solemn topic about succession
Posted by: az2020 - 02-05-2020, 07:03 PM - Forum: On Topic - Replies (4)

I hate to be a buzzkill. But, last month Peppermint OS's author/creator (Mark Greaves) passed away. I get the impression that community wasn't prepared; might be struggling to fill those shoes (maybe not fully involved in what Mark did. I don't know. I haven't asked. But, I can see how that could happen.).

I've been wondering whether Linux Lite's community ever thinks about such things? Are there more people involved in LL's development? Would it exist without Jerry?

I'm not really asking for answers. Just wondering if anyone has thought of such things (and raising that topic, if not).

  dual boot news I think
Posted by: trinidad - 02-04-2020, 09:10 PM - Forum: On Topic - No Replies

AIO boot seems like decent software, but with Windows there is always the worry of tracking. This particulaqr set of tools works a lot like the way I normally set up Linux dual boots with Windows so I think that it is interesting. Never noticed it before or I would have given it a test run. Linux Lite is also listed as one of the OSs that has been tested using it. Anyway it seems entirely free, but there is mention at the bottom of the About page about receiving support as an LLC AWS affiliate. I can't test this at the moment but maybe someone here would be interested. I'd be curious to know if any onboard telemetry to Amazon gets installed in Windows.

  Hello from a grateful Dad

Hi Linux Lite Community

Just installed Linux Lite on my daughters  Sony Varo Netbook which originally ran Windows 7 Starter 32 bit (a woeful operating system). As recommended I checked the Varos hardware against LL configuration database and tried LL using a distro burned to a USB stick – everything worked first time! I did compare LL with Lubuntu  ( a bit stark) and Mint Mate and found LL to be the right combination of snappy performance (within the limits of an Intel Atom processor), leanness and features – well done Jerry and the team.

Couple of things  to note I found Etcher would not boot up on my Win10 laptop so burned my LL distro using Rufus. Also Lubuntu kept corrupting its distro on the USB stick after a couple of hours  running the live distro – is this a known problem with Ubuntu/Debian based distos?

I now have a happy 8 year old who can watch kids Youtube and work on her homework without borrowing Dads laptop.
