Lite Sounds not disabling logout sound
Posted by: RumDrama - 06-19-2020, 07:46 PM - Forum: Security & Bug Fixes - Replies (3)

Hi everyone.

When I use Lite Sounds and choose Disable Logout Sound it doesn’t give me feedback with the message: Sounds Have Been Disabled - OK, like the other ones do. After restarting the computer, I Logout and the sound still plays. After disabling the logout sound then Enable Logout Sound I get: The Logout Sound may already be enabled. So it’s not disabling at all. I’m trying to have no System Sounds whatsoever. Thank you for your help.

Good day to you all. Sorry for my English, i`m from Ukraine. I have a problem with my printer HP LaserJet m1132MFP on Linux Lite 5.0. I simply can not make him work. I tried to install HPLIP via terminal and by downloading deb package from official HP web-site but nothing worked so far. Can anyone tell me how to fix it. On LL4.0 everything worked good.

  Partitioning Question
Posted by: blackiecoffee - 06-19-2020, 02:40 AM - Forum: Installing Linux Lite - Replies (6)

Hello everyone! I'm a beginner Linux user who mostly got into Linux because I needed a reliable computer for work, and all I have are dinosaurs who can't run windows 10.

I've successfully installed Linux Lite 4.8 on a Fujitsu Lifebook (with 250gb HDD, and 4gb RAM), and have been using it for work and recreation for the past 2 weeks. However, when I initially installed Linux Lite (I opted to dual boot as it is my first install of any Linux OS), I only allotted 90gb to it because I thought I would have to use Windows more. Now, I find that I almost exclusively use Linux (The performance improvement is just amazing) and would like to reduce some of the memory from Windows and give it to LL. I have a basic understanding of partitioning since learning Linux has been my recent obsession but I am not knowledgeable enough to risk re-partitioning the HDD.

Thank you!

TL;DR Dual booting Windows 10 and Linux Lite: how to reduce Windows' disk size and add more to Linux.

  Bootup time
Posted by: Abw - 06-18-2020, 11:54 PM - Forum: Installing Linux Lite - Replies (8)

So I was at Costco and decided to try Linux Lite 5.0 to see if everything worked (wifi being the most important)
I picked an HP, I-7, with nvdia  graphics card, 16 gig of memory and a 512 gig of ss storage to boot up LL 5.0 from my USB.
It took just as long to boot up as my old laptop at home!! I was surprised to think that a new hot machine would not make it boot in a flash.
Does anyone have comments on why it takes LL so long to boot on old or new??

  Install Updates Graphical Glitch
Posted by: Mart - 06-18-2020, 05:52 PM - Forum: Other - Replies (18)

Has anyone experienced an annoying graphical glitch when using Linux Lite's native update utility ('Install Updates')?

I've experienced this same glitch / bug in the past when running the 4 series and now it's happening again with LL 5.0. I've never experienced this issue with LL 3.8, which I'm still running as my main driver, and I've never had any other graphical problems or bugs with Linux Lite - it's that good. I'd like to move over to the 5 series permanently before the year is out, but would like to solve this issue before doing so.

To best explain this glitch / bug, I've posted the following images to illustrate the problem -

1. The updates are fetched and displayed as per normal.

2. 'Downloading - Please wait' - graphical horizontal moving bar window appears.

3. Glitch - graphical horizontal moving bar window blinks out and disappears as quickly as it first appears.

4. Empty screen follows - no graphical confirmation of progress and that updates are being installed and working.

When this first happened, I thought the updates had failed and tried to run the process again but was locked out and told that another process was working in the background.

What I discovered later was that the updates were still downloading and installing in the background, but I only realized this later when the 'Updates Successful' window finally popped-up.

I've tried to solve this bug by running Lite Tweaks 'Package System Repair' utility but this didn't help. I've also checked for broken dependencies in Synaptic but it tells me there are none.

Any suggestions about how to fix this small but annoying graphical glitch would be gratefully appreciated.

Thanks in advance for any help provided.

Smile

Hi Folks,
Newbie to LL, also a newbie since the early unix systems but never really became very conversant with them.
Using LL to revitalize an oldish laptop.

Certainly faster than W10 :-)

Standby for questions .....
