To whom it may concern,
I am new to Linux Lite from Windows. Zoom requests the type of Linux (I select Other Linux OS since Linux Lite is not listed) and the version. The version options to select are gcc 4.7+ and gcc 4.6+. Which one do I select?
Regards,
Jee-Aik

| Display With Horizontal White Bars |

I just installed Linux Lite 5.4 on a HP Pro 3420 All-In-One PC. The install went well with a normal display but it has horizontal white bars running up and down over the display. I ran a update but no change. I checked for third party drivers and none were found thinking another video driver is needed. Any ideas for getting rid of these white bars? thanks,
Planorez

| Extension for 32bit version? |

Hi all,
Next to my main desktop, I have a few laptops of Dell Latitude D620. Although they are all 64 bit, it is too heavy to run a 64 bit Linux distro on them, because they only have 1 GB of ram.
I know that the latest 32 bit version of Linux Lite is 3.8, but that has been discontinued since April 2021!
1. Are there any plans to resume the creation of a 32 bit version of Linux Lite?
2. If not: is it still recommendable to make use of LL 3.8 32 bit?
3. If not: what would be your suggestion to use instead?
Thanks in advance for answering!

I've been working with two different concurrent Operating Systems (Win8 and LL) for years now. Win8 was there for historic reasons.
I've tried MX-Linux in virtual machines and I wanted to make the full transition, as I understand that it doesn't use systemd.
What a disaster. The installer gave me an error that it couldn't install GRUB and, worse, left my system unable to boot.
Fortunately, I already had a bootable LL 5 USB, and installed from that. It gave me a message that a funny additional partition was required (which was easy to do) and everything then worked first time. So that's full marks and thanks to Jerry!
PS: MX-Linux has been top of the Distrowatch download charts for months, as people try to escape systemd. I can't help thinking that if LL were to remove it then LL would instantly become the most popular linux OS.

Hi all,
First, I'd like to thank the developers for this amazing distro!
To get to the point: on my x64 desktop with 8 GB ram, I try to install my printer: HP Laser 107w (or the HP Laser 103-107-108). I direct to the original ppd: HP_Laser_10x_Series.ppd, which works on any other Linux distro. Also I tried to install via cups: http://localhost:631/. But this didn't bring the solution either.
I tried to install via cups, via printmanager and cups, but following message appears: "Rendering completed." After executing the error trace modus, the system hangs.
In the website cups: http://localhost:631/, it says: stopped | "Filter failed".
Hope anyone has the solution!

Anybody else having a problem with the ads on the forum blocking what people are saying?
I get ads are needed to generate the revenue required to keep the sites up, but they won't close and they cover the threads.
Can I narrow the forum window size so I can read between the ads?

Situation: Wife has a ministry leading group prayers with Shut-In's using ZOOM. When the Pandemic hit I bought her a new laptop for her to use.
As time went by she began using the laptop more and more like a desktop but kept getting frustrated with all the Windows updates and Microsoft Edge insisting on being the default browser.
Last night was the last straw, the fonts on the screen went blurry and could only be fixed with a reboot which meant her group session that she was leading was interrupted.
I quit using Windows in 2018 and decided enough was enough.
I found an older Dell tower that is easily 10 years old but has 8 gigs of ram, HDMI and a 7200 RPM drive.
I hooked it up to a newer monitor I had and found some ancient speakers that hook up with USB.
I then found an old Microsoft 5MP camera to use.
Well, no surprise that Linux Lite installed smoothly and within a short amount of time I had a nice little computer system setup for her that is dedicated for video conferencing.
She logged in with her google account and found Libre-Word reads her documents without issue.
Zoom configured with no problems and honestly seems smoother.
The computer is reasonably quick with LL 5.4, the Dell Laptop may have an edge on speed but smoothness and reliability are better than speed.
5 out of 5 stars for Linux Lite!
