Microsoft is going to shut down Linux Lite if lite-fonts are embeded into an os.
I remembered why Ubuntu didn't add them. So I googled a bit and found several threads on this.
I'm just going to paste what I found because I don't like typing on the phone. :)
"msttcorefonts is considered globally legal for installation because the license for the fonts allow them to be installed and by omission, installed on non-Windows operating systems, without a Windows license.
In short: It's not a case of copyright law because Microsoft allows the redistribution of the font installers and it allows users to install the fonts (regardless of OS).
It does not allow for redistribution of the TTF font files on their own, so, for example, it would not allow for a distribution like Ubuntu to include them by default.
Sidebar: The newer (Vista-era) fonts like Consolas, Segoe, Cambria, Candara have explicit "only for Windows" junk in their licenses, but these fonts aren't included in msttcorefonts so that doesn't matter."

I'm fully cognisant of the situation with MS fonts, many OS's bundle things like flash and java, other proprietary software in their OS and noone bothers with them because the linux only has 1% of the Desktop market. You can imagine what infinitesimal fraction LL is of that 1% :)

Well, Adobe supported linux until recently and most distros use openjdk which is an open source java implementation.
I see what you mean. Microsoft is unlikely to take any actions if their stocks drop for 1.000.000 of a % the day lunux lite ships.
I don't trust them, they closed so many companies.
Lets hope the good old MS forgot all about Lindows. :)
Happy new year Jerry.
