time synchronization
#1

As part of customising a Linux Lite 7.6 installation I indented to activate "keep synchronized with internet servers" in the Time and Date Settings.

When choosing this option a pop-up window appears:

Selecting "Install NTP support" results in:

I noticed that Linux Lite is not using the Ubuntu default systemd-timesyncd.service but ntpd. So ntp is actually installed.

So are users expected to just ignore this setting while synchronization has been implemented in Linux Lite by default?

Any feedback would be appreciated, esp. to my question.

The described behaviour/bug can also be observed in a Linux Lite 7.8 live session.

@jerry, what am I missing here, please?

Same with Linux Lite 7.8 being installed.

Thanks, TC! Highly appreciate that you took the time to reply.
I haven't spun up an Ubuntu machine yet to check whether users run into the same issue there.

Series 8.x uses systemctl to manage time and ntp.

Key Time Synchronization Commands
• Enable Time Sync: sudo timedatectl set-ntp on
• Disable Time Sync: sudo timedatectl set-ntp off
• Check Sync Status: timedatectl status
• Set Timezone: sudo timedatectl set-timezone Region/City (e.g., America/New_York)

Managing systemd-timesyncd
systemd-timesyncd is a lightweight SNTP client included by default.
• Start Sync Service: sudo systemctl start systemd-timesyncd
• Enable Sync Service: sudo systemctl enable systemd-timesyncd
• Restart Sync Service: sudo systemctl restart systemd-timesyncd
• Check Service Status: systemctl status systemd-timesyncd

Thanks, Jerry!

What about the error message when users try adjustments via the Time and Date Settings GUI?
Does that issue need to be reported to Xfce/Ubuntu/Xubuntu, or has it been caused by Linux Lite customisations?

Surely it would be beneficial to avoid users, especially new ones, running into this, wouldn't it?

Not sure what the issue is because I'm not going to waste time on it. Series 8.x is what I need to devote all my time to over the next few weeks.
