After selecting to install Linux Lite 5.6 on my old computer Intel Core 2 Duo CPU E4500 @ 2.20Ghz x2 and NVIDIA Corp. G86 [GeForce 8500 GT] and 2g of Ram I get black and white diagonal blocks, see attachment. I also tried safe mode. Any ideas?
I'm currently running Linux Mint 18 (32bit).
Thanks in advance.

LL5.x is 64bit only - by the specs and the prior OS - your system is 32bit...
Unfortunately any of the still supported version of LL won't be able to run on this architecture (32bit)...
