Recently my computer does not seem to load everything properly on start up. when I view photos it seems to only display 256 colors. It used to happen only occasionally,, and would go away if I reboot the computer, but lately it seems to do this every time.

Hello Kong77,
do you have another computer to test the monitor, cable and graphics card with ?
Or do you have a spare cable (or from a friend) to try ?
Also to try other monitor to confirm it is not faulty.

I am sure this is a software problem like a driver not loading, because if I boot from a linux livecd all images display properly.

I did a search for drivers, the results were 2 drivers found,
Broadcom STA wireless driver
NVIDIA accelerated graphics driver
below both of them it says "this driver is not activated" and has option to activate the driver.
Seems like I should activate the NVIDIA driver, right?

The odd thing is that I have a vague recollection of installing the NVIDIA driver a long time ago, my conclusion is that is somehow got corrupted.
Anyway this time it said Sorry this installation has failed. See log file for details.
I have attached the log file.
I have not clicked Activate Broadcom STA driver, that would be my next thing to try.

Broadcom STA driver is for networking, no need to do that.
The sensible thing to do here is to install Linux Lite 3.4. Series 1.x is no longer supported.

Question answered in your other thread. You should definitely look at a fresh install with fresh settings keeping in mind what you set up, is good for 5 years. That's pretty good.
