Hi all,
Just installed linux lite 2.6
Laptop : Compaw nx6120
Connected via ethernet.
Full Updates
Noticed that laptop wifi light is not on, tried wifi button, no effect
Had a look in networking, no wan showing
Broadcom 14e4:4318
Had a look in Settings > Install Drivers
And it showed a broadcom driver option, sorry I did not record :(
Installed, entered password, took a long time to install.
rebooted
The reboot stayed static for 30minutes, I got impatient and killed power, started up again. And still no luck with wifi.
Any suggestions and comments welcome.
Thanks :)

Hi remus,
my experience (Dell laptop with Broadcom wifi) is that it depends on bios setup. In my case helped to disable the wifi button and enable automatic switching between Ethernet and wifi. Probably the easiest way is to try the setup in Live CD mode - you should be able to activate wifi in that.

Exactly the same with my BCM43228. >:(
Sorry, it did not come to my mind that I should try whether it really works when the adapter seems like installed normally... I have tried LL 2.2 Live. Out of the box does not work, "Instal Drivers" does not help.

Not sure if this has been attempted... But it looks like from the Ubuntu site:
Quote:b43 driver (Open-source)
For Chip ID BCM 4306 (rev 03), 4309, 4311, 4312, 4318, 4322, 4331, 43224 and 43225.
4312 and 4318 use similar driver not sure about 43228 but may be worth a look..
From the post I referenced above...

From there, perform a search on the word "Broadcom" and select the package named "bcmwl-kernel-source." Mark it for installation and click on Apply. That will add the driver for Broadcom Corporation BCM4312 802.11b/g to your computer.
Or if you want do the above faster, you can copy and paste the following code into a terminal:
Code:
sudo apt-get install bcmwl-kernel-source
May want to look at Install/Remove Software for Broadcom devices, I'm not at my LL box to confirm whats all in Synaptic...

Here is what has worked for me with Dell notebooks.
Be sure to have connection via wire to the Internet
Open terminal screen
Type
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install firmware-b43-installer
Reboot the system, remove the wired connection, then see if wifi is working. Hasn't failed me yet, thought there is always a first time.

After first restart it pretended connection but IP did not work (ping, http). After another restart has never connected.
Thanks for the effort anyway.

Thanks, does not help unfortunately. But don't worry, this issue is not very high on my list of items preventing me now to switch to LL completely.
