Look in /var/log/dist-upgrade/apt.log file, and it should identify the packages that were broken. You'll have to apt-get remove them, then do Menu, Favorites, Install Updates. If this doesn't work, you're package system is pretty fried. This is what happens when ppa's for 2 different series are mixed together, it's a serious error that can be very difficult to correct. You could be much more productive with a 10 minute reinstall. Live and learn
