So, everything was fine. Now when I choose "Ubuntu" at the bootloader it loads and then I get a black screen. When I choose the older version 5.0.33 at the bootloader it loads just fine. When I choose the new version 5.0.44 (I think that's the number) I get the black screen. Is that a known issue with the update? What can I do?

Assuming the versions mentioned are the kernels...
You can boot to the working the kernel - could try running updates to see if any new kernels....
But use Lite Tweaks / Kernel Remover -- remove the non working kernel and any other older if you like (the in use will not be show) keep 1 or 2...
*Give it a week or so for a newer kernel - see if that corrects itself.
If so - your good..
If not - you may have to pin/hold kernels to the last working.
Or could try a different kernel - via the installer...

I figured it out. I chose a different driver for my Nvidia graphic card and that's why the screen turned black during booting. I switched back to the suggested, open source driver.
