Is there any need to close private files when going online? Just how secure is the LL installed firewall?

had a quick look at that, not sure if I'm any wiser yet, but I don't suppose it's meant to be simple. If I ever get to retire I'll look deeper into all this, meantime I think I'll just close any private files before going online.
