  Problem with clean install
Posted by: yourbestITguy - 09-10-2014, 07:05 PM - Forum: Installing Linux Lite - Replies (4)

I burned the image to a disk about 6 times trying the 32 and 64 bit versions as an iso file to try to install it on another computer, my laptop. No matter what when I put it in the CD drive and try to boot up to install the OS it hangs on "Starting MS-DOS". I'd used the BurnAware Free program to make a bootable CD and it just had standard DOS commands including fdisk. I used the fsdisk to delete all the partions and created one partition but still to no avail. Any ideas how to fix so I can boot into Linux Lite to install it from the CD?

  Virus check 14 possible threats!
Posted by: Alex - 09-10-2014, 05:33 PM - Forum: On Topic - Replies (3)

I just ran a check with ClamTk and these were the results:

Since most of the possible 'threats' seem to be associated with Wine, I wonder whether I should Uninstall it.

I am not sure what the one regarding Firefox is about...

Anyway should I quarantine all of them or delete or do nothing?

Thanks  Smile

  Totem (Video) Video URL Extraktionsfehler
Posted by: Oliver - 09-10-2014, 01:14 PM - Forum: Other - No Replies

Hello,

I have installed the ARTE+ plugin for Totem to watch Videos (installed via sudo apt-get install totem-plugin-arte). This does noct work. When I access any Video on the right panel I always get the error: "Video URL Extraktionsfehler".
In Xubuntu 14.04 and Mint 17 xfce had no problems with the same configuration.

Is there any help?

Thanks in advance

  [SOLVED]Error 2000
Posted by: JmaCWQ - 09-10-2014, 07:15 AM - Forum: Installing Linux Lite - Replies (12)

Hello All,

Asking this for a friend who's been rather vague with info passed to me  :-\
From what I can gather she's trying to install LL2 on an older XP machine she claims to have built herself, can't get it to boot from USB so she's made a DVD.
When trying to boot from it she gets a message "Cannot find the kernel image on boot, Error 2000."

I've installed LL2 on about 8 different older and newer desktops & laptops for other people & haven't seen anything like this before.
I suggested it might be the ISO corrupted or the disc reader/writer or other hardware failing though I'm told md5 is correct and the reader/writer works ok.
Tried about 5 or 6 different discs, lol, last we spoke I don't think she was too happy about wasting discs.
I did ask her to try the disc/s on another machine but haven't heard back yet.

I think she's given up but I'm curious to know if anyone has seen that error before or knows what that error actually means?

Cheers

Dual Booting XP & LL2 with shared data partition.
Posted by: m654321 - 09-10-2014, 05:25 AM - Forum: Other - Replies (6)

I am thinking of dual-booting one of my laptops with Win XP and LL2, using a fresh install of each OS, with a common (shared) DATA partition for the contents of 'home' (with the exception of 'Desktop' which wont be shared).

I'll use service pack 4 to patch Win XP, as well as one or two other tips to enhance its security, as suggested by Jerry (Jerry Bezencon) on his extremely helpful YouTube videos.

My question is roughly how much HDD space should I apportion for each operating system?  I was thinking of 40GB for each but maybe I could get away comfortably with much less?

Many thanks for any comments.
Regards
Mike
