One of the things had to give up when I replaced WinXP with LL was my membership to Audible.com (I like audiobooks) as their Download manager caters for Windows and Apple but not for Linux, however they do cater for downloads to Androids, which are, I am told,  Linux based.

I have been wondering if I can some how fool their system into thinking that LL is an android or maybe using Wine to fool it that I have a Windows OS?

If any of the above are likely, how would I do it?

I'm new to Linux Lite, just installed it. working fine, but when you goto System>Addition Software>enter your password, and then enter any of the options (1 to 25) none of them wont install. Just an Error window comes up, it cannot be installed.  Additional Info: I'm using Dell Latitude D620 laptop.

I do a weekly radio show. When I put my show together, I need to quickly search for songs I have on my various drives that I can use on my show. At the moment I am using Catfish. This option is not working for me because I need to take the search results and copy them to a folder. It seems that Catfish only allows you to right click on one song at a time and do a save as which is not what I need to do considering I may find hundreds of songs I need to put into a separate folder.

At the moment I have to do my searches on my iMac because as I type in the search criteria, the results are being displayed, and I can take the results and put them into a specific folder.

What are my options? I am using Linux Lite 2.0. Really appreciate all the help and suggestions.

I seem to install Pinta each time I install any distro. It just comes second nature. In keeping with the Lite-ness, this application is there. It reminds me of the good old Paint Shop Pro days. Really easy to use, and the interface is not cluttered or separated into windows like Gimp (I always hated that). Just a simple paint and image manipulation tool that anyone can use...even if they have never used it before. Great for resizing images, adjusting images, and more. I cannot say enough good about this simple yet so very efficient application. It runs fast in LL, and I highly suggest anyone try it!

Tried and can not get rid of nouveau.
I've battled nouveau for several years.
The GUI tool seems to properly install all nvidia304 & components.
But nouveau will simply not remove itself. Several reboots and checks. grub updates etc.
I've purged nouveau but it is still there! wow

netflix installed but it also required wine so I did that,

do I need to make any links to wine profiles ?

My password for logging-on with LL2 is the same as the password requested by the default keyring, whenever I try to access the Wi-Fi
connection to the internet.  I don't think this is sensible, as anyone who successfully hacks the router password will presumably be able to access my root files. I am particularly keen to change this password, in view of the malware attack I suffered recently which I reported on 11 posts earlier in this same part of the forum

My question is therefore: how do I change the password for  the default keyring password in LL2?

I would like to offer a suggestion for a different software for burning the Linux Lite ISO to be recommended for new users coming over from windows.

FreeISOBurner

You do not need to install the program, just double left click to run it.

To make your ISO you only need to do this -

1/ double left click to run program.
2/ click "Open" button and browse to your Linux Lite ISO. Highlight it (one left click), then click the open button on the lower right of window.
3/ insert a cd, wait for the disc to spin up.
4/ click the burn button, when it ejects the cd (or dvd) is all done and ready to use.

It has no options for burning anything other than an ISO, so removes the chance for errors at that stage.

Additionally as it doesn't need installing it can also be dragged dropped along with a Linux Lite ISO to a USB flash drive and the burn software can be used from the flash drive as it's a portable application, to burn the Linux Lite file to a CD or DVD on site, it has a smaller form factor than carrying cds, and doesn't require the target install pc to have bootable usb feature.

I know this is a long post, but I've tried several times to burn the ISO nfilename: linux-lite-2.0-32bit to an old HP Omnibook Laptop via the CD. I'm either not burning it as an image correctly or making some other error, but this is really getting frustrating!

I'm not a novice with computers but I am with Linux. My old Windows XP system has treated me well, but now that damned Bill Gates is forcing a hardware and software upgrade to my computer by having his little "end of life" coming up on OCT !4, 2014. I've been trying to get it on the old laptop for a couple of weeks now with no success.

Once I know how to do it by installing it to the old laptop I'll stick a copy of LINUX on my big nice desktop computer that I built from the ground up myself.

Could somebody please open a dialouge with me to help me resolve the issues I'm having in my first try(s) at installing Linux Lite to my laptop?

I've tried all of this:
burned the OS 4 different times to 4 different CDs, using different types of CDs (standard silver (HP) and blue colors (NOT Blue ray).
used the recommended Burnware Free (version 7.3: on it's compilation screen for DATA: it has an option to Burn a Boot Disc, Custom Disc. on it's compilation screen for DISK IMAGES it has: Burn Image, Make ISO, and Make Boot ISO.

I think I've tried just about all of them but it's so confusing to know which one is right, and so far no success. I'm sick of Windows and Microsoft now and do not want to have any of their money grubbing products on my computer! So I don't care about data destruction on the laptop. I DO care on the big nice computer though.

Originally I wanted to just blow off the whole hard drive and have nothing but Linux Lite but all I got no matter what was the ability to fdisk, setver, format and command prompt from the "Burn a Boot Disc under DATA category. I had no options, so I FDISK the HD into 3 partions, one for "Ghost Windows" only 25 GB in size (I'll likely just delete it later - see below for why I resorted to this.

I gave that up since I was having so many issues that I reinstalled a copy of Windows XP on a little tiny partion (I'm not going to be using it, just to try to get the CD ISO FILE) intending to use Windows Explorer to go to the CD and double-click the ISO, but I just get a message "Windows doesn't know how to open this file" then it suggest some website I'm not familiar with to open the file and I don't think it's going to help, probably try to decompile the LINUX LITE OS file!

I downloaded gparted-live-0.19.1-4-i486 thinking maybe the partioning issue was a problem, but now am hesitant to go to all the trouble to keep spinning my wheels with all this back and forth.

I have a lot of documentation reading to do to bring myself up to speed and get it installed and used to using it on the old Laptop so I can get it up on my good desktop, and would like to do so before the Bill Gates crowd decides to pull the plug on Oct 16. I wrote to their support asking what would happen, would it just die and stop working, or just be vulnerable, or no support fixes (I've always just fixed it myself anyway because they are too expensive and I know what to do about 99 per cent of the time - I'm a geek). Of course they send NO ANSWER and you know, I was starting to learn computers back when Windows 3.0 had just came out. I remember getting a lot of jobs adding memory to people's computers because everybody had to have more, and since then they've continued the trend and just gotten worse and worse and I'm FED UP with MICKEYRSOFT!

So please, please, work with me to determine what I'm doing wrong. Once I get to the start screen after the bootup, I'll probably be just fine, but it's getting to the INSTALL screen I just can't seem to find. PLEASE HELP. And don't just send a message that "it sounds like blah blah blah" without sending me a list of things to try, a RESOLUTION for it, OK?

I was unable to boot up except in safe mode and applied this fix from another link:

*  Open a terminal and type following to open /etc/default/grub file with text editor as root.
Code: [Select]
gksu leafpad /etc/default/grub

*  Look for this line:
Code: [Select]
GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="quiet splash"

*  Change it to this:
Code: [Select]
GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="quiet splash i915.modeset=0"

*  Save file, then close text editor

*  Still in the terminal, enter the following:
Code: [Select]
sudo update-grub

*  Close terminal and reboot computer.

This worked great, but during boot up I have no boot option menu (grub menu?) to choose normal boot, Recovery Mode, etc. I figured this wa a graphics issue, so applied this fix (from another thread):

The graphical Grub menu does not appear to be compatible with your video card. So let's switch to a text menu instead.

Open the terminal with Ctrl+Alt+T
Paste the below, and enter your password when asked:

sudo sed -i -e 's/#GRUB_TERMINAL/GRUB_TERMINAL/g' /etc/default/grub
Then type sudo update-grub

Still not seeing the menu though?  Will this menu only display if there is another operating system such as Windows present (I have not plugged in my Windows Drive and configured grub for that yet)?
