  [SOLVED] Unable to post
Posted by: Klinux - 01-19-2015, 06:39 AM - Forum: Suggestions and Feedback - Replies (1)

I'm trying to post in the Video Cards section, but every time I submit I get an error:
Internal Server Error
The server encountered an internal error or misconfiguration and was unable to complete your request.
Please contact the server administrator, [email protected] and inform them of the time the error occurred, and anything you might have done that may have caused the error.
More information about this error may be available in the server error log.
Additionally, a 404 Not Found error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request.

Edit - If I write only a couple of sentences and click preview then it works okay. If I write more than that and click preview or submit, I get the above error.

How to change the font of the Whisker Menu Title
Posted by: anon222 - 01-18-2015, 11:26 PM - Forum: Tutorials - Replies (7)

I've discovered this accidentally. You can change the title if you use the pango markup language.
Right-click on the Menu then Properties.
[img height=600 width=361]http://i.imgur.com/9TfSecn.png[/img]
When the whisker menu dialog  opens change the title to this:

Code:
<span foreground="black" size="large">Menu</span>
foreground defines the font color
You can set your own font color. For example red, green, #fff, #fcfc02...
size defines the font size, some of them are 'xx-small', 'x-small', 'small', 'medium', 'large', 'x-large', 'xx-large'
If you want to see more options follow this link

How to set a key combination for a "partial reboot"
Posted by: anon222 - 01-18-2015, 03:03 PM - Forum: Suggestions and Feedback - Replies (5)

Linux Lite almost never freezes. But when it does happen, it's often enough to perform a "partial reboot" (only the graphical environment). That's technically better than a hard reboot by the physical power button.

For a partial reboot you can enable the key combination Ctrl+Alt+Backspace.
To set this up open the terminal Ctrl +Alt +T

Type in:

Code:
gksudo leafpad /etc/default/keyboard
When a text editor opens, find the line:
Code:
XKBOPTIONS=""

Replace it by this line (use copy/paste):
Code:
XKBOPTIONS="terminate:ctrl_alt_bksp"

Save the modified file and close it and then reboot your computer.
After logging in again, you can test it: Ctrl+Alt+Backspace should reboot only the desktop and throw you back into the login window.

  Health Tips #3 - Breakfast
Posted by: bitsnpcs - 01-18-2015, 02:03 AM - Forum: Off Topic - Replies (7)

Hello,

I have always found eating breakfast (and lunch) to be really difficult, and often skipped these, this is not good, or healthy my doctor told me so many times.

Spheres

I decided to try fruit, at first it didn't work or encourage me to eat breakfast.
I one day tried a couple of grapes, tried it again and it worked okay, I didn't feel sick.
One day there were no grapes so I told myself a cherry tomato is like a bigger grape , this also worked.
I then tried blueberries , this also worked.

They are all spherical in shape, I found this pattern a bit odd.
I put it down to "the breakfast trick" , they were small in size easy to hold and eat whilst making a drink.

Sometimes I failed to eat breakfast using the new method due to not having any of these 3 items available. Likely I chose to forget them so I didn't have to change and eat breakfast.

Organising

I have 7 little dishes.
I began with grapes, initially green seedless ones.
I would have a punnet of these and count out 3 grapes into each bowl, and leave the remainder.
I sometimes ate a few whilst counting them too. Smile
I then lined 6 of these up in the fridge and put the first one separate in the fridge.
Each day making the next one separate the evening before.

This worked excellently, it meant I ate breakfast every single day for a month or 2.
I did not eat all 3 grapes at once I ate them at random in the morning whilst making a drink, getting ready etc.
That is, mostly I ate them either whilst standing around or on the move.

After this time I began to eat 3 grapes and sometimes 1 cherry tomato.

I have worked at it increasing decreasing the numbers.

My numbers now in each bowl have been for over 2 years as follows -
7 green seedless grapes
or
5 red seedless grapes
or
3 cherry tomatoes
or
5 blueberries.

Other quantities, fruits of varying shapes, or food types, may work using this method, I have not tried them myself but am interested to hear about this.

Results

It means I eat breakfast almost every day, and feel better for it.
As I don't sit down with them in the bowl all at once in front of me, it works for me.
When I did try sitting down with the bowl of them it didn't work and took me some time to get back on track with it.

Conclusion

If you, a family member or anyone you know, has difficulty eating breakfast, hopefully the method either helps , or gives you some ideas of other things to try.
It would also be good for very busy people as they can take the bowl with them, or a small bag and eat it whilst traveling.
It would also be good for busy parents to ensure their children eat breakfast/can take it with them if needed.

Thoughts from the News

This week I seen on the news about many primary schools (under 11yo children) now have breakfast clubs, for the pupils.
One head teacher said they have noticed the children's behavior has improved in class and a lot of previously disruptive behavior has all but disappeared, the children study more, enjoy learning more, and their grades have improved.
It then went on to state over 40% of primary schools here (UK), now have these breakfast clubs.
The kids go to school 1 hour earlier each day to attend them.

This also make me wonder if bad behavior occurs in workplace colleagues for hunger reasons.

Hope this install lasts a long time

My name is jim2you71. I am new to the forum but I have installed Lite before on an old desktop.

Up until recently I was running Crunchbang on my old Toshiba Tecra laptop. I got where I didn't like the fact that when I installed a new program it was not automatically added to the menu. So I tried more than one but for one reason or another they didn't work for me. A couple of them were different versions of the same distro. They messed with the video driver and were just not useable. I am mostly a gui user and am not looking to solve distro problems from the command line right after installation.

So far Lite looks good, its quick and seems to be stable. All the things that I think I have to have are either installed or readily available. Great job!

How do I change from Login to Auto-Login mode with LL2.2
Posted by: m654321 - 01-17-2015, 06:57 PM - Forum: Other - Replies (1)

My laptop is running LL2.2.
Initially, I set it to manual login, putting my password in when the login screen appears, following boot-up.

However, I would now like to change this to auto-login, so that I don't have to enter my password each time
I boot-up.  How do I do this?

Many thanks in advance for your help - much appreciated as always.
Kind regards
Mike

  Speed Issues
Posted by: Alex - 01-17-2015, 04:10 AM - Forum: Installing Linux Lite - Replies (8)

When I first installed LL a few months ago I was impressed by its speed both on and off line. Since then there seems to have been an apparent slow down in speed, even in the time it takes to log in. In the old days with Win Xp this effect usually meant that the system needed a spyware/adware clean-up and a defrag session.

As I understand Linux systems both of these operations are not necessary - so, what might be slowing down my operations?

I did a system report, but it is double-speak to me and for some reason it was published as a html document in my browser ? I copied it onto a LO document (20 pages!)

Any ideas?
