[SOLVED] Asus G750JS - has anyone installed LL on this?
Posted by: m654321 - 04-18-2015, 06:16 AM - Forum: Other - Replies (9)

I've bought a gaming laptop (has both UEFI & Legacy boot), an Asus G750JS, but am having problems installing LL2.4 properly in legacy boot, with either MBR or GPT partition table set-up. Though the install runs smoothly, on reboot the laptop does not recognize the 250GB SSD (sda) on which the \ partition is installed.  Within the settings, the Boot order only lists the second 1TB SSD drive (sdb), where my \home & swap are installed, but not the 250GB SSD.  Could this have something to do with LL not being UEFI supported?  I'd rather stay with LL if there is a workaround for this, rather than opt for a another distro that's UEFI supported e.g. Ubuntu.

I did see the youtube video by Nehal J Wani, that Jerry put elsewhere in the forum on how to do a Win8.1/LL dual boot on a UEFI computer, but this seemed overly complicated and risky for an amateur like me, though I did make a transcript of the video for later reference just in case I'm feeling brave enough & have the time...

Many thanks for any help.
Regards
Mike

Linux Lite 2.4 64bit beryl repositories acting up
Posted by: vaikus84 - 04-17-2015, 07:21 PM - Forum: Installing Software - Replies (3)

Hello

Having an issue after doing the first update via the icon. It just won't let me do a simple "sudo apt-get update" in the terminal.
It says that the official beryl repos are broken or unavailable , or old for some reason.
I unticked them from the repo list. And then everything was fine.

The pic from the repolist:

And yes. I have a valid DSL connection. No problems there.

Thank you in advance,

Playing Line In through the speakers attached to my system.
Posted by: JerryS - 04-17-2015, 01:37 PM - Forum: Sound - Replies (1)

I have a tape deck attached to my line in.  I want to be able to hear the deck through my attached speakers... I can't seem to get the sound settings to allow me to do it.  I've installed Audacity, and can get it to semi work.. while recording.. but its garbled.  However.. optimal would be to be able to hear the sound through my system speakers while playing and record when I want to record.  Now this is a easy set up in windows.. and I'm sure there must be something in Linux to run from the command line.  Ubuntu seems to have a loop back function to select in the switch tab of the sound settings.. but I can't see anything on Linux Lite.  I prefer to keep Linux Lite as it is quite handily the best Linux Distro to date!

NEW Linux Lite Website - BETA
Posted by: valtam - 04-17-2015, 07:45 AM - Forum: Suggestions and Feedback - Replies (35)

The new Linux Lite website is now live, in BETA form.
The Linux Lite website is now coded for all devices including -  Smartphones & Tablets (Android & iOS) and of course personal computers.
Mobile devices outnumber personal computers 8 to 1, we can't ignore this anymore.

https://dfgkh547-jsdfv8.iyhkj.tk/beta/

This means that we will need as many people testing it as possible before we replace the current website with it.
To ensure we have a working, error free website, can you please report on the following issues:

- Spelling errors
- Broken or dead links
- Formatting issues (especially on Smartphones & Tablets)
- Please test on ALL browsers, Opera, FF, Safari, IE (v9+), Firefox, Chrome etc
- Please test on all OS's - Windows, Linux, Mac

Will not render properly on Windows XP with IE8 or below so please don't report this.

Constructive criticism or design ideas are welcome, although I can't promise any suggestions will be implemented if either because of the current code we have or formatting.

The following links will NOT work until we go live, this is to save me extra unnecessary code adjustments:

bugs/
screenshots/
manual/
forums/

as these link to directories on the server already established, so please don't report on these Smile

Issues/Bugs to fix will be listed here:

- Page bookmark links not jumping to the right spot.

So please, get out those mobile devices and of course use your pc's to click like you've never clicked before and report ANY issues in this thread!

Thank you Smile

Jerry

  Arial font
Posted by: pauloz - 04-17-2015, 05:21 AM - Forum: Installing Software - Replies (1)

I have a spreadsheet program in LibreOffice which is used by others via Dropbox for information purposes - I do all the input. It's in the Arial font (size 10) and appears on my screen as pixelated and unpleasant to look at. However, I'm reluctant to change it because everybody else views it in Windows via Dropbox and they don't have any issues. Even if I do try to change the font to say Droid Sans, LibreOffice suddenly fails to respond and freezes up. It works fine when I use the Arial font.

I can't stand Windoze and I'm trying to get it out of my life. Can anybody suggest an alternative or is it a case of being hamstrung.

Thanks
pauloz

How do I re-import my saved podcasts back into Clementine123 music player?
Posted by: m654321 - 04-16-2015, 08:23 PM - Forum: Other - No Replies

When I reformatted my hard drive, I saved all my subscribed podcasts, from Clementine123 to an external drive.
On doing a clean install of  LL2.4 and downloading Clementine123 afresh,, how can I reimport these saved podcasts to Clementine 123 and continue subscribing?

Any help much appreciated.

  ctrl+q override?
Posted by: edanl - 04-16-2015, 08:04 AM - Forum: Other - Replies (1)

Hi everyone,

I use a text editor called sciTE (http://www.scintilla.org/SciTE.html) which I find very useful for coding and also writing latex scientific documents.

That editor uses the ctrl+q shortcut combination for commenting out lines.

I am not sure what I did, but I somehow managed to accidentally override this shortcut, and now it won't work anymore. ALL the rest of the shortcuts still work perfectly fine, and my problem was created when I tried to add another language to my linux lite, so I suspect that I did something that cancels/overrides the sciTE usage of ctrl+q.

Any help on resolving this will be much appreciated, it is very hard to work without that important shortcut.

(another, unrelated question: can one upgrade to the newer (2.4) linux lite without a full re-installation?)

All the best,
Edan.

Forum Profile Fields - CPU, RAM, GPU
Posted by: valtam - 04-15-2015, 12:44 PM - Forum: Suggestions and Feedback - Replies (19)

We now have 3 new profile fields for people to display, CPU, RAM, and GPU. These 3 were chosen because most issues involve these pieces of hardware. We also have to limit the list so that peoples profiles don't take up a whole page when posting Smile

These can be found in: Profile, Forum Profile (scroll to bottom)

Please keep your info as concise as possible. If you have multiple computers, please list your main computer.

To get your system info, open a terminal and do:

Code:
inxi -b

Thanks to avj for the suggestion Smile

I encourage all members to display these details Smile
