Technically, I don't think it matters too much since the download iso

  Skype auto-start with system
Posted by: Cookee - 06-09-2015, 01:11 PM - Forum: Installing Software - Replies (1)

firsttime user on Lite,
I'm very impressed with L-Lite, it is incredibly fast. I recommend it to all.

Question: In the Skype preferences I can't find the option; "auto-start with system".
I wondered, does linux, for safety reasons NOT allow an auto-start of Skype?
Or have I missed an option?

cheers, Cookee

  Unknown Error & System Report
Posted by: JmaCWQ - 06-08-2015, 07:03 AM - Forum: Other - Replies (10)

Hello All,

Using LL2.0

Anyone know what this error below means?
Noticed it a few times over the last week or so, appears to be random but becoming more frequent, not really sure what sets it off.
Click Close and it goes away, I've never seen it come back in the same session after closing it, can happen at the beginning, middle or end of a session.
I get the impression reading it something is trying to phone home but it's being blocked causing the error to appear.
No mention of any error in the logs that I can find.

Also the system report appears to have broken, not sure when, sometime between January & now, lol, I realise that's not much help but all that happens is it opens a Terminal window that says "Create System Report" on the top window header (where you double click to maximise or minimise) & in the Terminal window itself the cursor just flashes right at the top left and nothing else happens, left it for half an hour & still nothing.
That window remains unresponsive, no text or commands can be entered manually but it closes ok.

Not sure if the 2 are related or not, just wondering if anyone might have an idea or can suggest something I can try to track what's going on.

Thanks

Last system report attached, old one from January this year, last time I did one.

  Add entire folder to Audacious
Posted by: Trip - 06-05-2015, 08:50 PM - Forum: Tutorials - Replies (13)

Add an entire folder of songs to Audacious music player...

Open your file manager (Thunar), select Configure Custom Actions in the Edit menu.
Press the button on the right hand side of the custom actions box that has the big plus sign on it.

In the Basic tab enter the following information:
Description = Play Music Album
Description = Play folder of songs.
Command = audacious %F
Then select the Audacious icon from the application icons section after clicking on the icon box.

In the Appearance Conditions tab, tick only the Directories box.
File Pattern = *

Press the ok button when finished and close the Configure Custom Actions program.

You should now be able to right click on any folder and have all of the songs queue up for playing in Audacious.
Warning: You might need to log out and back in before you see it in your menu??

Took me a while to figure out so I hope it saves someone the stress Smile

[SOLVED] ATI Radeon X1550/X1650 Dual Head Video Card
Posted by: kjacobs - 06-03-2015, 08:56 PM - Forum: Video Cards - Replies (11)

Hi group....

I recently acquired an ATI Radeon X1550/X1650 dual head video card that I wanted to try and replace my old nvidia dual head card. The hardware scan calls it a X1550, however the internet search says it is a X1650.....it has dual DVI port on board. The pci nvidia card worked ok, but was kind of jittery video playback and sluggish on moving programs back and forth between screens. I was hoping this PCIe Radeon X1650 card would be an improvement with 256MB RAM.

However, I tried to run the Install Drivers option and the new video card is not being discovered for installing drivers.

How can I run this ATI Radeon X1550 card and how would I best remove the Nvidia X server option that was installed with the previous card I was using?

Thanks in advance..........

Ken

Advice needed for VPN troubles with Linux Lite 1.x
Posted by: mandoran - 06-03-2015, 06:01 PM - Forum: Network - Replies (2)

Hello all,

I suddenly began to have problems with my VPN, either my browser would lose contact with the 'net, or I was unable to connect at all. After much digging and some assistance from my provider, the key problem seemed to be an empty or non-existent resolv.conf file, and the following looked like a fix:

"Use following command and answer YES to enable dynamic updates:

sudo dpkg-reconfigure resolvconf
Worked for me on Ubuntu 12.04.
"

I was also told to enter a specific DNS address in my /etc/network/interfaces file.
After much trial and error I now have my VPN service working again - but now I cannot get a working connection at all without the VPN. I guess that I need to add DNS addresses, perhaps to the interfaces file, or one of the relevant files in the /etc/resolv.conf directory - but I was wondering if anyone had advice about how best to solve this.

Can anyone help me with this? (I am running a 1.x version of LL on this machine, and don't have time to upgrade it - am having a new machine put in fairly soon that will run the latest LL, but need to find a fix now...)

Thanks!

Good for when you are at the local library and the mentally disturbed are giggling foolishly at mindless you-tube videos near you.

We get a lot of homeless here in our library for the air conditioning. Gonna be a 101F today.
