  After install, system freezes...
Posted by: glin22 - 06-24-2015, 06:15 PM - Forum: Video Cards - Replies (11)

Hi folks,

I've been through about 7 installs of various versions of Linux - Ubuntu 14.04-2 LTS, Lubuntu 15.05, Lubuntu 15.04 Alt, and now Linux lite 2.4, all 32 bit versions. The basics of my system- 2 MB ram, Intel core 2 duo, onboard VGA support.

I got Ubuntu installed but had freezes most of the time (barely useable), Lubuntu would freeze up during install procedure, Linux lite 2.4 installed fine.

I was really happy as Linux lite seemed to fit the bill better than the other versions of LInux, but sometimes I would still freeze up like when I would try to use Firefox, check display config screen settings, and doing stuff in the terminal. But Linux lite is *FAR* more stable than anything else I've tried so I'd like to see if we can fix this or at least find out why my probs are happening. The bad part is that when I freeze up I can't get into the terminal at all, Ctrl - Alt- F2 or CTrl - alt- T will not work, are there any other key combos that can get a terminal going ?

I'd appreciate if someone who has more skills than I do can give me some ideas on what to check out, etc. Do you have a pastebinit thingie that I can use to ship you more detailed tech info on the system ? Tell me what you want me to do.

I really like what the Linux Lite team has done, you Dev folks have done a very nice thing, but hope we can get the system more stable.

Thanks,
glin22

Do I need to reload Linux Lite again to set partition ?
Posted by: DLX - 06-22-2015, 02:58 PM - Forum: Hard Drives and SSDs - Replies (3)

I'm sure before I start to load LL I set two partition at 250gb and an 80gb for LL
The 250gb were left at NTFS I was going to change them later.

Now I'm looking to change size I can only see one drive with partition of 461gb.
I can't resize or unmount at the OS LL is using this drive.

The setting are grayed out I had this before I just had to unmount.

Using Gparted this should see the other NTFS partition right?
Is the easy and quickest way to format and reload LL again setting partition 80gb for LL

I have looked at youtube before I started this question.

  Unicode suport in Firefox
Posted by: friimynd - 06-22-2015, 05:00 AM - Forum: Suggestions and Feedback - No Replies

The default install does not enable Unicode support.  The menu item in Firefox was greyed out till I installed 'lite fonts'

sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get install lite-fonts

is this the right selection?  i found it in another forum post after searching 'unicode'.

  Why Ubuntu? Why Linux Lite?
Posted by: torreydale - 06-22-2015, 04:03 AM - Forum: On Topic - Replies (21)

I am curious why others here chose Ubuntu and Linux Lite?  I'll go first.

I chose the Ubuntu family because it appeared to be the most popular for newbies and desktops.  I chose Linux Lite because I thought it would be best for transitioning folks in my sphere of influence over to Linux.  Since I'm a newbie myself, I also like the support, the documentation, and the roadmap of where the Linux Lite distro is headed.  When I find myself selling someone on the benefits of Linux, these things make it an easy sell.

Why did you choose Ubuntu LTS and Linux Lite?
