  Linux Lite 2.8 Suggestion Thread
Posted by: valtam - 09-02-2015, 08:20 AM - Forum: Suggestions and Feedback - Replies (168)

It's that time again. It's your feedback that steers this distro in a progressive direction. Please remember to only include ideas that have both wide appeal and a sense of familiarity to Windows users. Think XP not Windows 10 Wink

First thing I'm looking at doing is putting a shortcut to the Help Manual on the desktop, as many people are still bypassing this resource when seeking help.

Really looking forward to all of your suggestions Smile

Is Linux Lite designed for older hardware
Posted by: jacatone - 09-02-2015, 04:25 AM - Forum: Installing Linux Lite - Replies (5)

I'm running LL 2.4 on an old Dell Dimension 4550 which really surprised me because I couldn't find anything other than Puppy Linux (which is un-usable) that would run on this old hardware. When I tried installing LL on newer hardware, it wouldn't install. Is it primarily designed for older systems?

How to know what version I am running
Posted by: jim2you71 - 09-02-2015, 01:25 AM - Forum: Other - Replies (5)

I have been running 32 bit Lite on my old laptop for some time. When I use the command line to try and find what version I have I get Ubuntu 14. ??? . Lite is never mentioned. I realize that Lite is based on Ubuntu LTS but I would like to upgrade to the latest version available. It looks like from what I can find that 2.4 and 2.6 are only 64 bit. Is that correct?

My upgrade to 2.6 went very smooth :-)

  Live CD issues
Posted by: shankster - 09-01-2015, 04:55 PM - Forum: Installing Linux Lite - Replies (2)

I apologize in advance if I'm asking this question in the wrong section of the forum.
New to Linux, and looking for the distro best suited to my needs. I watched tons of YouTube videos and settled on Linux Lite. I downloaded the ISO (version 2.4, 32 bit), burned it to DVD (at the slowest speed), and booted it up. Everything's fine until I go to "Lite Software", which wants to "Update software sources", which I say OK to. After a minute or two I get an error "Updating sources has failed". I also try to "Install updates" (I know this isn't essential when working from the live CD, but I tried anyway). I get a list of updates, it downloads the updates, but a couple of minutes into the installation I get another error "Linux Lite updates has failed". The point of trying the live CD before installing is to "kick the tires" so to speak, but these issues make it difficult to see all the distro can do. Fearing I might have a bad DVD I redo the download / burn with a new disk and a different computer .... same result. Are there limited things you can do from the live CD, or am I missing something?
Thanks in advance for any comments or suggections.

Upgrade to 2.6 - one item fails
Posted by: raj - 09-01-2015, 11:06 AM - Forum: Installing Linux Lite - Replies (1)

This is almost certainly a result of the mistaken attempt to install then uninstall Enlightenment earlier https://dfgkh547-jsdfv8.iyhkj.tk/forums/insta...in-taskbar. I have lost the LL login screen and now have an XFCE (I think) login showing my desktop wallpaper and the square box for username & passwd. Using the lite tweaks to restore the boot splash doesn't work (but no error). And the upgrade to 2.6 displayed the following error: "There was an error while seting [sic] lite-welcome to autostart on first boot ". Otherwise I think the upgrade process succeeded, and CC shows OS as LL version  2.6.

Introducing the Linux Lite Control Center - The Linux Lite Control Center was created with new folk to linux in mind. We wanted to build an application that was one central location for everything that you needed to configure your computer. We recognise that it is sometimes hard to find where things are on a linux based operating system. Lite Control Center aims to address that dilemma. Built much like a web page, Lite Control Center has a menu on the left as categories, and within those categories buttons that launch whichever application you are wanting to use. Lite Control Center can be found on the taskbar next to the terminal icon.

Systemback - During the 2.6 development cycle, we asked the community which system restore tool they favoured the most and why. After receiving excellent feedback on social media and the Forums, the community chose Systemback to be included in Linux Lite 2.6. Systemback is extremely versatile. You can easily restore the previous state of your computer, perform system copying, system installation and Live system creation. This is especially useful for those wanting to deploy their custom version of Linux Lite across multiple machines, something the community has been asking for.

Posted by: Lend27 - 08-31-2015, 04:13 AM - Forum: Sound - Replies (1)

I installed LL2.6 beta on my Chromebook Acer C720.
All is well except a few issues.
I am trying to map the volume up, down, and mute keys to the volume keys on my keyboard.
What commands would I use?

Thanks!
