  Could it be the driver?
Posted by: MarkBeardsley - 01-01-2016, 03:58 PM - Forum: Video Cards - Replies (6)

Sorry about this but I need to explain a little bit of the background to this question.

Just for fun, I bought a Chinese made mini pc recently, the Tronsmart BJ19. It is built around the Intel Celeron J1900 chipset and I was thinking of using it for software development and the like. When I received the pc, I could not make it work with the VGA monitor I had at hand but found that it did function when plugged into an old TV set which had an HDMI port. Linux Lite 2.6 was installed successfully and then updated. Later, I bought a new monitor with VGA and HDMI ports and tried to plug the BJ19 into this; this is when the fun began.

Booting the pc up, I saw a GRUB screen and took the Linux Lite option only for the display to revert to black and for the monitor to tell me that it was not receiving a signal. Digging around the internet it seems there are a few people having similar problems; they can boot up the machine when the monitor is HD ready but not when it is fully HD. With Windows installations, it seems the problem is fixed by installing an updated driver and I wondered if the same solution can be applied in my case.

So, my question is, well questions are, how can I check to see which drivers I have installed? Next, how can I install different driver software? I understand that Intel themselves offer drivers that can be installed using an application they also provide. Does anyone have experience with this? What options do I have with regard to drivers and is there a 'preferred' solution?

Thanks in advance.

DVB-T usb ITE Inc. Zolid Mini version 2
Posted by: justme2 - 01-01-2016, 02:43 PM - Forum: Other - Replies (1)

Scenario:
My usb TV adapter worked ok with LL2.4 but now I have tried to install on LL2.6 it no longer works.
http://www.linuxtv.org/wiki/index.php/DVB-T_USB_Devices shows version 2 to be a longer stick than version 1, but mine is a small square stick and is version 2. The id (048d:9135) is the same and the marking is MINI DVB T. Command dmesg shows that the adapter is identified and is in warm state, lsusb identifies it as Zorin it9135 version 2. Firmware dvb-usb-it9135-01.fw and dvb-usb-it9135-02.fw exist in /lib/firmware. But it does not work with any of the popular TV apps. (BTW the adapter does work with windoze so is not faulty). I have searched the net and tried all suggestions, to no avail.

Later:
I had kept copies of the firmware version (dvb-usb-it9135-02.fw) from when the adapter last worked. Comparison of the file sizes showed a difference between the earlier and currently installed files, so I deleted the version which came with LL2.6 and replaced with the version which I last knew worked. Eureka - the dvb-t adapter now works. Note that its it9135-02, NOT it9135-01 as suggested at linuxtv.org

Anyone else having trouble with the Zorin MINI DVB-T may find this useful.

Compliments of the season to all LinuxLite developers, forum members and users.  Smile

  UEFI Build Test
Posted by: valtam - 01-01-2016, 05:43 AM - Forum: Linux Lite Software Development - Replies (194)

I'd like a few volunteers to test some of the UEFI builds I've been working on.  If you have a UEFI computer and would like to help test this ISO, please reply to this thread and let me know. This cannot be tested on VirtualBox, it must be installed to actual hardware.

I've added a license file to go with this - https://dfgkh547-jsdfv8.iyhkj.tk/files/EFI-LICENSE.txt You'll have to agree with this first, thank you.

During this test please report the following:

- Is Secure Boot and or UEFI enabled on your computer
- What install options you choose (check boxes on the installer etc)
- Whether this is a dual, multiple or single boot
- Any errors that occur during the install: please keep an eye on the installer, see where it crashes
- Screenshot any crashes or error messages

Anyone wanting to use as is where is test builds of Linux Lite with UEFI support can get them here - http://repo.linuxliteos.com/uefitests/

Notes:

- Some Grub menu items are missing/not working
- You should be able to upgrade from within a Series once this is installed
- You will need an internet connection to install this
- ISO is larger than 1.1Gb so it may not work on all BIOS's
- Lite Widget not showing Updates Status
- Please check the rest of this thread before asking any questions

This is no indication that LL will start producing Linux Lite with UEFI support, this is simply an experimental project and perhaps the only chance to get a Linux Lite stable UEFI build.

Thank you in advance, Jerry Smile

  Feedback: Odd forum glitch
Posted by: avj - 12-31-2015, 04:03 PM - Forum: Suggestions and Feedback - Replies (1)

I have noticed recently that if I view the forum while not signed in, some of the topics with "best answers" marked have a spot to click "Undo Best Answer", and some with no best answer have the link to mark one.  Just thought I would pass it along.

I am using chrome with these extensions,  flashcontrol, Avast online security, Zen mate, and google translate.

Hope that helps narrow it down.

Can't install Linux Lite 2.6 due to pae option on Pentium M
Posted by: jjjimmy1 - 12-31-2015, 05:10 AM - Forum: Installing Linux Lite - Replies (2)

Hi-I am new to Linux and am trying to install LL 2.6. it keeps failing due to the PAE option not set.
Is there a way to edit the boot up to forcepae? I was able to do that to install Lubuntu but I don't see how to do that here.  Any info about this? Thanks

Firefox strange way of handling downloaded items
Posted by: LinuxNoob - 12-29-2015, 10:51 PM - Forum: Other - Replies (11)

After downloading a file I go to the downloaded drop-down list and if I try to execute the file or even try to open the folder it is located in I get the Linux Lite update dialog box and then if I proceed I get a dialog box that requires my password.

After entering the password it proceeds to check for updates and later tells me I am up to date. Then exits.

Anyone? Anyone?

[SOLVED] Dual boot with Windows 10
Posted by: stevedat - 12-29-2015, 10:11 AM - Forum: Installing Linux Lite - Replies (18)

Hi everyone,
Smile
First of all, a big thank to Linux Lite creator & its team members.  Wink
I am running Linux Lite 2.6 on my Dell Inspiron N4050 and being happy with it.  ;D
However I need to use Windows for some stuff. I know that most of the stuff can find and work on Linux, but it's not all.
So I want to reinstall Windows on my machine.
The point is I decided to install Linux Lite 2.6 on my entire HDD (500GB). I separated my hard drive like that: /root (80GB), /home (400BG), and /swap (2GB) (there is only 3 partitions and amount numbers of GB on each partition is not accurate, just relevant numbers).
And now I am going to install Windows 10 and having a dual boot to pick up which OS to boot up when I want to run Linux Lite or Windows 10.  :Smile
Can you guys guide me best ways to do it without losing any existing data at /home?
Re-seizing partitions by GParted takes long to complete - it was a painful experience. !_!
I think that I need a way fast & secured!  :-[

Thanks.
Dat
