To my brother. Talk about a windows die hard. Well not really. He's been watching me distro hop for years now and after telling him what windows has been up to he feels a bit concerned.
So I had my LL 2.6v on a thumb drive made with the system back utility and we tried it on his laptop that he uses windows 7 on. He was pleasantly surprised how fast it booted. However the one thing he thought he needed windows for was to do his UFile taxes.
After using wine and installing it and worked he is seriously thinking about trying LL. Did I mention he's real CHEAP! haha So in my opinion if he can do it then anyone can.
So in a few weeks (in his own due time) don't want it to be only my idea why he's using LL, we will be doing an install.
Should be fun. We'll convert the world one brother at a time right? haha
Cheers!
I'll keep anyone here interested updated on how things go.......

LL 2.8 install with encryption stuck at "creating user"

have loved linux lite from the get go and when i saw that 2.8 was released had to give it another go. Normal install works fine but i need disk encryption (i travel a lot with sensitive data and can't risk it being stolen). When i try to install with encrypted / lvm the install process stalls at "creating user" both on VM and during normal install. I have seen this error/bug with other distro's to and have yet to find a fix.
any suggestions are welcome as i would love to be able to get back to using LL
regards,
NiiX

Allow Keyboard Interaction on Login Screen

I'd like to request a feature for a future release of LinuxLite. At present (LinuxLite 2.8 ) the login screen does not allow for keyboard navigation/operation, you can't open the login prompt, restart, shutdown, sleep without using a mouse. You can type into the password box, but only after right clicking the username with the mouse. Can we get some a TAB (select) / ENTER (initiate) setup? I understand 90% of "normal"users have no issue with requiring a mouse to login, but I'm a bit of a keyboard commando, and not having this option drives me nuts. Everything else within the OS I can do with a keyboard operation, hot-key sequence, etc. I just can't get into the system... and if the batteries happen to die on my mouse while I'm on the road with the laptop... well then I guess I'm just out of luck.

Hi every body,
I noticed like ubuntu base ( debian), some programs ( services ) run at the start up, while they are not used by the majority of the users:
for example samba or virtual box or sane , in my case I always removed them.
I don't understand they are always started.
by the way how to remove them definitely
best regards

Font rendering in Linux Lite

This morning after installing LL 2.8 on my Dell laptop and Gateway notebook I learned something new to me that I thought might be of interest to others. The background is that I had noticed that my notebook's display seemed a bit sharper with another distribution, Arch Linux with an LXDE desktop, with which LL shares a dual boot.
It turns out that the display of fonts can easily be just as sharp in Linux Lite, if you know what to do. Go to Linux Lite Control Center >> Appearance >> Fonts and look at the sub-menu item Rendering. The default for "Sub-pixel order" was None. When I set it to RGB my fonts became much sharper. (The same was true on my Dell Latitude E6410.)
There is also an entry called Hinting. I experimented with this until I got the nicest rendering of my LL font of choice, Sans Bold.
Now the best setting for these depends on what display your computer is using, so your best settings might be different from mine. Fortunately, they are easy to play with and you can immediately see the results on the screen. Also, messing with these probably won't break anything, and you can always go back.
I'd never really paid any attention to these settings, assuming that their install defaults (which I suspect go back to Ubuntu) were optimal. As an Old Dog I'm always happy to learn a new trick and increase my enjoyment of LL even more.
Cheers,
Andy N1KSN
