Installing new version of gnu make without compiling
Posted by: AcsPrime - 06-10-2023, 06:57 AM - Forum: Installing Software - No Replies

Hey,

I'm on Linux Lite 5.8.
The installed version of gnu make is 4.2.1 but the latest gnu make version is 4.4.1.
Is there a simple way to install this latest version without it being to compile from source?
I found this stack overflow post https://askubuntu.com/a/1386772/1326 which seems to point to a deb package for 4.3.

This seems to be quite simple on a mac using brew.

I removed the bottom menu by accident - how to restore it?
Posted by: gotLL - 06-09-2023, 06:01 AM - Forum: Other - Replies (1)

Hello all,
I've just installed LInux Lite 6.2
I removed Google-Chromium as a application - and noticed the icon for it was still in the bottom menu bar.
I double-clicked on it to make sure there was no program associated with it - and that was confirmed.

So I wanted to remove the icon.
I right-clicked on the Google-Chromium icon and selected remove - and the whole menu got removed OUCH!!!

I suspect it is an XFCE object.
How do I restore it?

Sincere thanks!

LinuxLite 6.4 Media Server (Running Gerbera) becomes unresponsive
Posted by: sqwuade - 06-06-2023, 02:52 AM - Forum: Other - No Replies

Hi,  I've set up a Linux Lite 6.4 machine - kernel updated to latest -> 6.3.5 (Running on an old Dell Vostro 400 PC with a ntel® Core™2 Duo CPU E4500 @ 2.20GHz proc, a 256Gb SSD for OS, an 8Tb Seagate HDD for media file storage and 4Gb RAM).  The machine works fine and servers up the files as UPnP/DLNA just as desired but it becomes unresponsive after a day or two.  I haven't made any changes to the LL power options (Sleep mode etc. are not turned on by default).  Does anyone have any suggestions on things to try?  :dft003:

Thanks!

UPDATE - I have several PCs of the same type and have been able to replicate the issue on a different system.  I set up LL6.4 on it, installed Gerbera (sudo apt install gerbera), moved some media files to the machine and confirmed UPnP/DLNA was working and streamed video to a smart TV on my LAN.  Then I let the system sit overnight and this morning the power light is still on but the UPnP/DLNA server is no longer visible on the LAN and the PC is no longer responsive to keyboard or mouse input either.

Red border and padding on images
Posted by: Carlos Reges - 06-04-2023, 11:45 PM - Forum: Security & Bug Fixes - No Replies

After the latest upgrade of the Linux Lite version from the terminal, red borders started appearing on all the images in web browsers (Firefox, Vivaldi, Brave). I haven't been able to fix it yet.

Just downloaded and ran Linux Lite 6.4 from a bootable USB drive and was trying to install the 160 updates it said I needed to install, but failed. It told me to paste the log file to this forum.
