I've been using the OS for a while with very little issue but after a recent update the start up sequence has slowed down dramatically, I have purged Virtual Box as a general recommendation pointed out in other post of this forum but with little effect.
This is the systemd-analysis blame read out:

36.799s nmbd.service
34.953s samba-ad-dc.service

Any recommendations as to how to cut down the start-up times?

Hello,
This printer is correctly working under LL 4.8 from several PC's.
Under LL 5.0 I get message "rendering completed". And printer tasks are stopped and stay in the printer queue.
I downloaded the most recent printer driver from HP site (as HP is now managing Samsung laser printers), installation without any problem.
The printer is founded by LL, I am able to get information concerning toner level from "properties" panel.
Firewall is disabled.

Hello, been away for a while and decided to test LL5 on a few old Windows-handicapped laptops before installing it later on my office PC running an old version of LL. I have had two failures on the old laptops and am perplexed as I have never had install problems with LL before.
To take the first problem, which is on a fairly old Toshiba Satellite:
The CD checks out and the OS works on the laptop hardware - though it does display a few error messages very quickly that screen upwards before the CD loads the OS for testing. Once loaded, absolutely everything works smoothly running LL5 from the CD.
The full erasure install hung a few times but eventually claimed a successful install. The machine does not boot at all though. I just get a flashing cursor in the upper left corner. I have gone through the install process via the CD several times, it claims success, but the machine performs like a brick now.
I have no idea what I should be looking out for or what alternatives I can try to get an install. The machine does not have any UEFI listing in the BIOS, the only useful parameter I can find is boot order.
Any advice gratefully welcomed.

(Dang originally posted in the wrong section, as I didn't classify this as a hardware problem. That's ASD for you.)
LL3.4 : Hp 15 notebook, quad core.
Ran updates Ok a couple of days ago. needed to reboot for some to take effect. It rebooted through 'safe' mode &then wouldn't connect to my wifi so shut down & logged back on all OK. Been on standby when not in use for last couple of days. Accidentally pressed on/off button tonight briefly & went into standby - I think. Pressed start button again to get back in & it shut down. now reboots to 'safe' (selects LL by default if left 30 secs.) I get the feather but his takes longer than normal to clear. then goes to command line login request. Accepts this OK with password & goes to command line $ after some messages inc:
usr/lib/ubuntu-release-upgrader/ release-upgrade-motd: 39: usr/lib/ubuntu-release-upgrader/release-upgrade-motd: cannot create /var/lib/ubuntu-release-upgrader/release upgrade available: read-only file system

cat: /var/lib/update-notifier/fsck-at-reboot: no such file or directory

What do I do now ?
