Created a new partition from space that I had from the Home partition. I plan to use this for Timeshift and other backup. For some unknown reason the partition says it is owned by Root and I cannot open it or change permissions. What do I need to do so I can access this? It now has no files in it.

Dear all,
I just upgrade from version 4 to 5, but something wrong happened in my display. When login all the thing in monitor was scrambled.
![[Image: Wz0Ay7U.jpg]](https://i.imgur.com/Wz0Ay7U.jpg)
I tried to boot into recovery mode, then resume to normal mode everything is good. But when rebooted into normal mode the abnormal display was still there.
Please tell me what I have to do to fix this issue.
This is my test command result:

WiFi networks not showing on new install of LL 3.8 on Asus ROG G750JM

So I have checked for a toggle and all this laptop has is the WiFi symbol on the F2 key; the WiFi "light" is lit. This laptop was donated the other day and the only info I got was that it was his son's used for gaming:
1) Dad felt it was a quality laptop as it cost $1,700 Cdn, but it started to have problems and it was felt (not sure by whom) that it might be the motherboard which was going to be too expensive to fix so the son replaced it.
2) working on it these past 24 hours the only issues I've noticed this far are that the WiFi networks don't show AND it seemed to take AGES for it to do a system restore point (It seemed like 15-20 mins...maybe it wasn't that long, however with RAM of 16GB; HD of 1 TB and either i5 or i7 - I didn't expect it to take that long), it however seems fast otherwise...
3) The dad never said the WiFi wasn't working.
4) When I fired the laptop up the first time before trying my LL USB to trial LL I had to use the WiFi USB to connect also.
5) I have loaded LL 3.8 and done updates via Update Manager (except NOT level 4 & 5).
I've done the following and will take add some screen shots: Here is the imgur link: https://imgur.com/a/CEnk0Qs
1) inxi -n
2) rfkill list
3) sudo nano /etc/NetworkManager/NetworkManager.conf then adding wifi.scan-rand-mac-address=no then sudo service network-manager restart
4) I have checked for drivers, but never know which one to check or uncheck (will try to include a pic).
I'm currently using a WiFi USB (that is what I was on when I took the pic of the connection info).
Any thoughts? Should I try changing to a different driver choice listed in the one pic?
BTW the reason I loaded LL 3.8 on it rather than something newer is because most of these donated laptops I use for the youth are older so LL 3.8 is perfect. Given the familiarity and also I like systemback I have stuck with this older version.

Etcher warning

I usually use Unetbootin to unpack ISO files to a USB, however it was suggested to use Etcher to do this for LLOS 5. I used a 32 GB drive for this which had some files on it, but these were all in folders so the unpacker should have left these alone. Not the case. All of the files were wiped and the remaining space on the drive has been lost. So if you are going to use Etcher, make sure the drive is clean or partitioned. I believe I can eventually get all of this space back by zeroing the drive and reformatting.

FAQ Section needed in GENERAL

We need a FAQ section in GENERAL
I've already answered the same question and it seems @firenice03 also did many times.
It is a waste of time for everybody to repeat the same answers. They are better placed somewhere in plain sight: FAQ.
One of them is trouble related to updates:
Launching the second instance of apt or dpkg or gdebi-gtk;
Using PPAs that lack the version for the current Core OS (Focal, 20.4 as for now). This is already a trivial issue but this is difficult to understand for a beginner.
The "server down" problem appears very rare so most update trouble is related to those two issues.
Another issue I noticed is "Upgrade From LL X-1 to X error.". I know this is a RTFM issue, but placing it in a visible FAQ will simplify things. You just point to the right forum topic link and it's solved.
Some other topics: Formatting; partitioning; UEFI (GUID) versus BIOS (DOS).
Would be of a great help to have a search box in the HELP system on the top of each page. Guesswork it's a bad idea here. (Linux Lite Manual, or User's Guide). It takes years to understand where to look for something you never crossed over. For a beginner, everything is a foreign language.
An operating system, only LOOKS easy and simple, due to the graphical approach. It NEVER WAS, WILL NEVER BE. Either SIMPLE or EASY. These are just myths. This was the windows marketing BS. Do we have to go on the same path?
Being the slave of the GUI is something and UNDERSTANDING it, it is a very different thing.
We can make things simpler, but this never meant EASY.
Simple, means knowing WHAT to do.
Easy, means KNOWING HOW TO DO IT. And this is achieved only through experience. Which takes time. Lots of time!
Best regards!

I'm running the latest versions of LL on desktops and my laptop computers. I noticed last night my laptop is no longer showing the Internet icon in the lower right hand corner, and it cannot be found anywhere on the laptop screen?
It had been left to right in the lower right of the screen: window1,window2 then internet icon, sound icon then time. Now the internet icon is missing.
I use this icon all the time as I turn off the WIFI on my laptop to save power when not in use. It also told me when I was connected and at what strength.
It was there two nights ago, now gone.
How can I get it back?
Looking under icons in appearance it is not shown nor listed. Changing my type of appearance light/dark,etc does not bring it back.
The other computers are showing the internet icon.
