Free Book - Create Graphical User interfaces with Python

Hello,
a total beginner to Python can make apps with this book.
The book is called "Create Graphical User interfaces with Python" , the digital version is free to download from here (no login or account needed) -
https://magpi.raspberrypi.org/books
It shows step by step tutorials to make things like - - a Meme Generator App
- a Paint type App.
- several Game apps
- and other apps
It looks like a really good book for making your very first Python apps.
At the end of each tutorial you will have a fully working app you have coded.
It uses guizero, this is a wrapper for tkinter, tkinter is the #1 used gui builder for Python, the book would be a great place to start making apps.
I hope it encourages you to give app making a try in your free time.

Lite Software Error during Wine installation

Hello,
Several days ago I installed Wine on LL 5.2 using Settings->Lite Software, and then I installed a DWG viewer via Wine. Both installations finished without any problems, but I didn’t like the DWG viewer, so I uninstalled it from Wine. Then I used Settings->Lite Software to uninstall Wine as well.
When I tried couple of days later to install Wine again using Settings->Lite Software, the installation stopped instantly with the message:
Quote:Lite Software Error:
- Error, pkgProblemResolver::Resolve generated breaks, this may be caused by held packages.
- Make sure your computer is connected to the Internet and try again.
After a search on the net I tried the following commands:
Code: sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get upgrade
sudo apt-get purge wine*
sudo apt-get install -f
Then I tried to install Wine again, but the installation ended with the same Lite Software Error message.
I am unsure how to proceed and I would appreciate any advice on the Wine installation.

Hello all,
I'm wondering if there is any application - whether GUI or Terminal which can scan text in the form of an image - and while doing so search for a specific string. On OCR with built in word search.
Is any such thing available?
Sincere thanks

Modifying the Shift+Numpad behavior

Hello,
When I use any text editor in Linux Lite (LL), pressing Shift reverts the keyboard Numlock state. I am used to selecting words of text with Shift and the numpad arrows keys, and the LL keyboard behavior is a bit of nuisance.
I wasn’t able to find anything in the LL forum or tutorials on this topic.
I have tried the following methods to change this keyboard behavior:
1) The file
Quote:/etc/default/keyboard
seems to define the default keyboard options. Modifying the file line XKBOPTIONS=”” to
Code: XKBOPTIONS=”numpad:microsoft”
works in my case after a LL restart.
2) The file Quote:/usr/share/X11/xkb/types/numpad
seems to define the keyboard behavior, when pressing Shift and Numpad. I am tempted to play with the settings, but I’m unsure whether the LL updates overwrite this file.
3) The Terminal command Code: setxkbmap –option ‘numpad:microsoft’
combined with Application Autostart may work as well, but I haven’t tested it.
4) I have tried without success to use the Quote:Setting Editor->keyboard-layout
There I have added /Default/XkbOptions/Numpad property. I have set its type as String, and its value as ‘numpad:microsoft’, but this hasn’t worked.
Method 4 seems to be almost user friendly, especially if there have been any hints or guidance, and it should be the proper way of modifying the keyboard behavior, but it just doesn’t work and I don’t know what the problem is.
What I am wondering is whether there is a more user friendly way to change the Shift+Numpad keyboard behavior.
And how can I modify Shift+Numpad behavior using the the XkbOptions in Setting Editor->keyboard-layout?
Many thanks.

[member=2]Jerry[/member] Has Marble development progressed enough with KDE now to consider for Lite software inclusion? Would it install a full featured working application in XFCE being based on QT5?

How do I install Google Earth in Linux Lite?

I have a simple goal: to download and install Google Earth in Lenux Lite so that I can open the program by clicking on icon or selecting it from a menu. I have been unsuccessful in getting there. I have searched the internet for instructions. I have copied codes and pasted them into my terminal. I have followed instructions on at least five webpages. I have become frustrated.
Should I give up and return to Windows?
