  On Screen Keyboard
Posted by: Larry Stehno - 09-10-2021, 12:18 AM - Forum: Installing Software - Replies (3)

Hello Everyone:  I installed 5.4 on a Gateway notebook and the keyboard is not the best.  I need a on-screen keyboard but have not been able to find a built-in one in 5.4.  Where can I find one that I can download and install?
Thanks,
Planorez

Login loop after recent update - can't access system
Posted by: kp_auburn - 09-09-2021, 09:46 PM - Forum: Start up and Shutdown - Replies (7)

Hi all!

I've been using Linux Lite for a year without any real issues. After a recent update I'm hitting the login loop (back to login screen after entering the password over and over again) and can't access the system. I've tried some of the fixes that were linked to Ubuntu website in this forum but so far none of them did the trick of allowing me past the login screen. Is anyone here available to provide some troubleshooting help? I'm facing some data loss if I have to reinstall so any help would be greatly appreciated.

  Killer E3100 & Killer wifi 6e AX1675x
Posted by: Rob_Rob - 09-09-2021, 06:32 AM - Forum: Network - Replies (1)

Hi!
I install Linux Lite 5.6, and I would like to know if there is driver for my networks card :

Killer E3100G 2.5 Gigabit Ethernet Controller
Killer® Wi-Fi 6E AX1675x 160MHz Wireless Network Adapter (210NGW)

Or if you know some generic driver for only one of them...

Im not an expert but I think it's a new hardware and there is no solution for linux...

Loop on login screen (LL 5.4)

How can I repair it ? I try to download the 5.6 version but the only choice I saw is to replace the 5.4 not to repair or upgread it.

  Linux (LL) compatible SSD
Posted by: dentalcher - 09-06-2021, 05:36 AM - Forum: Hard Drives and SSDs - Replies (10)

Hi. I need your help regarding internal SSDs. I am not tech savvy so please pardon me if my questions sound absurd to you:
1. Will internal SSD work with a very old (12-year-old) laptop?
2. Are there specific SSD brands/models that are compatible with Linux particularly with Linux Lite (LL is the only OS in this computer)? Some lesser known SSD brands include compatibility with Linux in their product description but I’m worried about their durability. The more known brands do not specify that they are compatible with Linux.
I asked because I replaced the original 320GB HDD (using only 15% OS + files) of my ASUS K401N with a Kingston 240GB A400 SSD 2.5'' SATA. I chose this because the memory (4GB) is also Kingston, and I believe, it’s a reliable low-cost brand. It fit perfectly, computer recognized it, but every time I would install LL 5.4 (always clean install, “Erase Disk and Install Linux” type) there was always a problem after another i.e. error in copying files during installation; cannot open an App; Install updates error (which I posted 2 issues in Installing Software section of the forum); Busybox Initramfs error every time I would reboot, etc. I never had trouble installing and using LL with the old HDD. After around 15 re-install attempts, I realized it was the SSD causing the problem. So for now I’m back with the HDD but I’d like to make it work faster so I want to replace the drive with an SSD.
3. Is there anything that I should do first like formatting the SSD for LL, etc.?

Thanks very much for your input!

Update-2 - Display resolution changed to lower value after upgrade to LL5.6
Posted by: mathewalex - 09-05-2021, 04:02 PM - Forum: Video Cards - No Replies

I upgraded LL5.4 to LL5.6 through the built-in Lite Upgrade utility. Following the upgrade, the display resolution has gone down to 1024x768 @ 76Hz on its own!
How to resolve this i.e., how to restore display back to original resolution (do not remember the value :dft001Smile.
The motherboard is MSI Z590-A-PRO, 32MBGB RAM, Processor is Intel® Core™ i7-10700 Processor (16M Cache, up to 4.80 GHz), Graphics card is ASUS GT710-SL-2GD5-BRK, and the Display is ASUS VG248QE.
Please help. Thank you.

Update (Sep 08, 2021):
I could resolve the issue by "clean" reinstalling Linux Lite 5.6 on the same disk. Now the display shows correct resolution and the system is working fine.

Update (Oct 31, 2021):

1] I did a fresh (clean) install of Linux Lite 5.6 after some upgrade to the hardware. The OS worked well with the correct screen resolution until today, when, on its own, it started with a low (1024 x 768 @ 76Hz) screen resolution! The driver check under Additional Driver shows the required NVIDIA driver (screenshot attached) as available, but every option to select is greyed out. And "Continue using a manually installed driver" is forced.
How can I change the driver to enable correct graphics resolution?
The hardware details -
Motherboard GIGABYTE Z590 UD (F5); Processor Intel Core i9-11900 @ 2.5GHz; RAM 32GB (2x16GB) Corsair CMK16GX4M1E3200C16; Graphics Card GP108 (ASUS GEFORCE GT 1030).

2] There is no option for Ethernet (wired) internet connection. Only WiFi connection available. Hence unable to use LAN option. The OS only recognizes the WiFi connection.

3] The OS does not maintain the correct time. I have to manually correct the time after each login.

Please help. I am tired of doing a clean reinstall of the OS! And, please note, I am only an ordinary computer user with no knowledge of software & hardware beyond the basics.

Thank you.

Update-1 (Oct 31, 2021):

I ran "sudo ubuntu-drivers autoinstall" followed by a reboot, and the graphics problem resolved itself.

The Ethernet and Time issues however remain to be resolved. All help to resolve these two issues is greatly appreciated.

Thank you.

Update-2 (Nov 07, 2021):

The video problem seems to have been resolved. Apparently  "sudo ubuntu-drivers autoinstall" did the trick.

The Time related problem also seems to have been resolved. The website "https://itsfoss.com/wrong-time-dual-boot/" was helpful in resolving the issue.

The Ethernet related issue remains to be resolved.

And, a new problem has cropped up - My HP printer Deskjet Ink Advantage 4675, which until recently was working fine under Linux Lite 5.6, suddenly stopped working with a message something like "Unable to communicate with printer". Have attempted nearly every suggestion, including HP printer driver related, available in the various Forums/Support sites, but no success. The printer is connected to the Desktop through USB, and is correctly detected by the OS! Even the Wi-Fi mode does not work.

Will continue to search for a solution to the remaining two issues, and will post details once the issues have been resolved.

Until then, appreciate any/all help from anyone of you.

Thank you.
