FYI
I found that my hardware produces some odd behaviour regarding WiFi, I have observed this with LL2 & Mint 17
It will connect to my WiFi 100% from a power on, or boot Live usb stick,
But once installed, if I just do a re-start it will only re-connect 10% of the time.!!!, WLan Card in some odd state/Driver/Timing issue.??

People are reporting that if you change to kernel 3.14.1 this will solve your issues, but you have to stay on that kernel.

Sorry for late reply... Been busy, and I missed this.
Having spent hours looking at this...
Googling show lots of people have issues with Realtek RTL8188EE with 14.04
lots of suggestions.... like compiling new drivers..!!!

Worst case scenario, you can get a USB WiFi chiclet for a few pounds, and use THAT to connect. Linux recognizes most of them automatically. The downside is that it would eat a USB port.

For my ANCIENT laptops, I have an old PCMCIA WiFi adapter or two lying around. These keep the USB port free...

Hi,

I did actually get a "free" USB WiFi "N" device with my new router, Asus RT-N66U
I will see if it works, on the Laptop with LL2, the inbuilt card only see's 2.4Ghz WiFi,
it did work dual band under Windows, it's not seeing the 5.0Ghz channels under LL2.

sad thing, my Google Nexus works great on 5.0Ghz

Update...

The Asus USB-N10 worked by plugging in,
It uses in built Realtek Drivers RTL8192

Seems to behave the same as the inbuilt RTL 8188,
so no obvious benefits or improvements using it.
